I recently stayed at the Stellar Inn with my wife and two young daughters and have decided to consider the trip a learning experience. Given that we were traveling to a new town with two children under the age of three, the contactless check-in, where the door is left unlocked, made us uncomfortable. Fortunately, we were able to arrive close to check-in, so we did not think it would be much of a problem. After receiving a text at 3 pm stating that our room was ready, we arrived around 3:30 to find it was still being cleaned. We decided to put our bags back in the car and walk through town to find a bathroom for our girls, rather than causing a fuss. When we returned at 4 pm, our room was clean and ready for us. We opted not to say anything because we are a young family that doesn't travel often, and we didn't want to start the trip off on a sour note.
Unfortunately, in the middle of the night during our stay, our 2-year-old fell ill and threw up. She was able to get a majority of it in the trash cans, but there were two minor stains on the sheets. We decided to leave early in the morning to get our daughter home, so we rinsed everything off and left the soiled sheets and towels in a pile for house cleaning and departed. I was disappointed to hear that Stellar Inn decided this was enough to charge us an additional $50 cleaning fee due to the excessive cleaning. I personally do not think this warranted an extra charge, especially since we had already done our own cleaning. Considering we did not have access to the room for the whole duration of our purchased stay, this would not have added more cleaning time than the time we were displaced from the room. I have opted to leave a two-star review because my daughter enjoyed walking through the courtyard to look at the pond and pumpkins. My suggestion to customers considering a stay with children is to find a different place to stay that is more family-oriented and understands that life can be unpredictable. I would highly suggest that if you choose to stay somewhere else in town, you take the time and walk to the Stellar Inn to appreciate the hard work they have put into the courtyard. The lesson I learned from this experience is to speak up if you paid for something and it is not right, even if it is a small business and you do not want to get anyone in trouble. Because they likely will not extend the same amount of grace to...
Read moreThis is a place to be avoided. The couple who run it do not have the personalities for service/hospitality. Both are unfriendly but the husband (a realtor who hawks that through the motel) is really creepy. He did something really offensive to me but like the bride in the comments below I am not going to go into it.
Facts: 1)It is not a B&B, no food whatsoever 2)The dogs come first. One is very large and I expressed some trepidation of him running toward me barking. There was no attempt to restrain him after that. (I am a dog lover. Have two dogs now and had very big dogs at several points in my life.) 3) No top sheet. Bedding smelled of body odor. Gross. 4) I arrived at 9:30 PM after a very long drive. I was exhausted then with no food available I went to bed. At 6:30 I was awakened by loud music through a speaker right outside my door. 4) Really spooky proprietors 5) Proprietors offer no guidance, completely disappear (probably a good thing) if you need anything forget about it and they live right there. 6) Even a local cop I talked to earlier told me to go somewhere else. I should have listened. 7) My room was by the front by the main street of Westcliffe, which is actually a highway. Tractor trailers all night, loud!!!! 8) Couldn't figure out how to use the TV and of course no one to ask for help.
Really, don't stay here. I was so upset by what the man did to me I had to meditate to get it out of my mind. You are expected to step into their life, their animals, their everything. These people are not welcoming . Stay...
Read moreI stayed here for a footrace in the nearby Sangre de Cristo mountains. I stayed in the Bullock's Oriole King Suite, which has a full kitchen and a hide-a-bed in addition to a nicely sized master bedroom.
The name "Courtyard" is literal - you enter through a gate into a central outdoor courtyard to access your room. The courtyard itself is very pretty, with lots of flowers and room for sitting or a picnic. Every room is named, except for the king suite, which had no sign or identifying number, and it was after dark when I got there, so nobody was around! Fortunately the manager responded very quickly to my text and told me where the room was.
A few things you should be aware of if you stay here. There was no air conditioner in the suite, just two large ceiling fans, which cooled the room enough to make it comfortable. Just had to play with the cords and switches a bit to make them turn on. Also, the baseboard heater was hidden behind the couch. There's no thermostat. You switch it on and off manually. Finally, be aware that Westcliffe rolls up the sidewalks at 8 p.m. and the only thing open after that is one bar (no food), and a couple of dollar stores. Just be prepared, that's all. It's a very nice town, and I can also recommend the coffee shop a block away from the inn. Definitely would stay here again if I return...
