I stay here at least once a week for work. Tonight, i arrived at midnight to find out that the room i had booked for three nights had trouble with the AC working. The staff made arrangements prior to my arrival to send me across the st to the Marriot at no additional charge. Also, they allowed me to pick as many snacks/beverages to take with me, AND my next two nights are free (doesn't matter much since I expense it) but they also gave me two free breakfast vouchers and advised I can come down to the bar for drinks/food during this stay and they will take care of everything. This is a fine example of great hospitality!
I travel to CT often for work, and have stayed at many hotels. It is worth the extra drive time to come back to this hotel every night. I love the balcony rooms because I enjoy letting fresh air in when available, and not feeling so couped up in my room. Temp controlled thermostats are a plus as well. I HATE hotels with AC units with the dial. All rooms have a refrigerator which I believe is a must for any hotel. I like to keep my leftover food and bottled water in them. Staff has always been friendly. Can't speak to the food as I've never eaten at the lobby restaurant. If you're looking for a great local place to eat/drink, Tunxis Grille is the best, however they close at 10pm on weekdays.
The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I'm a Hilton Honors member and they often forget to give me my two free bottles of water at check-in (I need to bring it up 90% of the time) and one time I had issues getting on the WiFi network (web browser wasn't redirecting me to the Hilton sign-in page on two laptops, iPad and two smart phones...seriously it wasn't an issue with my devices) and all they did was give me a 1-800 # to call, where I sat on hold for 35 minutes, just to have the agent go through the same exact troubleshooting steps I had done, with no resolution. This burned up an entire night of office work I specifically came back to the hotel to complete. The next morning, I could connect with no issues, so I stand by the fact that it wasn't an issue on my end. One final negative thing to say is the house keeping staff start pounding on doors WAY too early, and often pound on mine despite the Do Not Disturb sign on my door knob. Always lock your doors because they will knock, say "house keeping", knock again, say it again, then enter your room before you can even take a breath to respond. They came in once while I was in the shower but left quickly and deeply apologized. Seriously, don't start your...
Read moreCheck in: No honors welcome amenity, or recognition. Staff is unfriendly, and matter of fact. I asked for a first floor room if possible. The request was ignored, and I was asked for my ID, after a minute or so, I was told I was on the 6th floor, and that is all they said. They don't recognize Hilton Honors members, or benefits.
They charged a $100 incidental, however when I bought food at the restaurant for the room, they directly charged my credit card at midnight after sale. Diamond member food credit is also not honored here. Room charges are not charged to your room. They must not realize that our banks notify us of charges after they happen. If the charge was to the room, it was not for the credit card directly. If I didn't swipe the card, then I had a reason for the room charge, in that the hotel took a large incidental fee, and I was going to use that. They held the fee, and charged my card on top of the money they already took off the card.
The property is unkept, and from the clumps already in the high grass, I would say this is normal. Signage is not in good repair, all flags are faded, in fact the American flag is smaller and faded than the Hilton flag. The bed was indented where people slept, and you can feel the ridge in the middle when you roll over. The toilet runs LOUDLY if you don't wait, and giggle the handle. The thermostat on the heater also does not work correctly. The patio furniture has green mold, or mildew, and is not clean. None of the outside furniture is cleaned at all.
When I went downstairs at 0445, the front desk was dark, however as I passed I saw movement that startled me, and another guest. It was the employee on his phone sitting in the dark.
At Check out I asked for a receipt, and was told that this hotel does not print receipts, but would email it to me. That is one good way to dodge the Diamond member questions for charging a credit card instead of the room, and ignoring a Hilton perk for diamond members.
In short, this is a Hilton Garden Inn, in that it has the basics for that brand. The rest of it is representative of a second rate brand. Very shady. This hotel feels entitled to your business, and in no way demonstrates any actual respect for the guests, other than to provide the bare minimum. Again, they don't recognize Hilton Honors members, or benefits. There are no stores close to this hotel, anything you need is a bid of a drive, unless you buy it at the hotel.
The hotel is on a hill, and a little tricky to get to if you...
Read moreI'm staying here because Hyatt House across the street was sold out. The hotel staff seem very relaxed here. Not rude, but also not that professional. The hotel needs MAJOR updates.|The hotel overall appears to be unclean. Many stains on the carpet, water marks on ceilings, dead bugs in room light fixtures and that's just the beginning. I didn't know if the room was actually clean, so I brought cleaner and microban disinfectant spray. The room had an odd odor when I opened the door. The furniture is old and peeling. The fridge door is broken along with the freezer. The bathroom WAS NOT CLEAN AT ALL. The tub had a dirt ring and a sticker on the bottom. The part where you turn the water on was hanging off the wall. The knob was VERY loose. I was worried if was going to fall off whike i was cleaning it and when i turned on the water. You could see strange dirt shadows on the shower walls. The baskets to hold your shower toiletries is barely connected to the shower and rusted. The mirrors in the room were also dirty and I had to clean them.|There's hardly any storage for you to put your clothes away, but after I stepped into the room, I decided it was probably for the best that I don't do that anyway. The microwave appeared clean, but I still cleaned it myself to be sure.|The room is extremely dim. There's one main light by the door which is the brightest. There's 2 lamps that are very dim by the bedside (one has holes in the shade) and 1 dim lamp on the desk by the TV. The bedside lamp kept flickering on and off as if to give Morse code to tell me to leave EXPEDITIOUSLY! I was straining to see and get my work done once the sun went down. The drywall tape is coming apart from the ceiling. I dont know if there was water damage in this hotel or what, but there's strange markings on the walls. The window had spider webs and some of the weather stripping was coming off. I didn't dare sit on the couch.....|Apparently the pool is "permanently closed", while the fitness center is open 24/7. However, I doubt they have cleaning supplies to wipe down the equipment once done. The room did have a keurig and some cups were provided, but again, since I questioned the cleanliness of the room, I wouldn't dare use it as I doubt it's properly cleaned and maintained.||PLEASE SAVE YOUR SANITY AND GO TO HYATT HOUSE OR A DIFFERENT HOTEL! This one is dirty and gross. It's worth it to pay more and have a...
