I want to start by saying my family and I REALLY wanted to enjoy our time at Caboose Lake. We’ve been looking forward to our little get away for weeks. Unfortunately, I can not say that we ultimately did. My fiancé and I serve as police officers in our county and community so when we booked our $500+ weekend getaway with caboose lake, we really hoped for a relaxing, and stress free getaway. Free from judgement and free from the everyday worries we deal with at home. That’s why people choose to camp!! Upon arrival, you have to check in with the main office. Easy enough. Except when you are less than greeted by the wicked awful owner of the property (Chris). Chris single handedly ruined this trip for my family and our friends family. Chris will greet you (hardly) with a horrific scowl and bark orders and rules at you for approx. 20 minutes before sending you on your way. I don’t believe she smiled one time. Your presence there WILL bother her and you WILL feel it. Additionally, while I waited in line to ask where we can park to access the water, a gentlemen who worked for a food delivery company was attempting to speak with Chris, the owner, about not having a certain item in stock that she ordered. Chris was so god awful to this man in response. She began telling him how he needs to change his route for her to arrive before 4. He explained he can’t do that, he follows a route that is established outside of his control. She didn’t care. She scuffed at him and scolded him like a bad dog. It was humiliating even for me. I was so shocked at the way she was speaking to this man, when my turn came up in line, I couldn’t focus on the nice lady trying to help me, because I was in awe watching the horror that was Chris interacting with the nice man trying to deliver her ice cream products. The younger lady however, was a saint. Moving forward, The entire ground is covered with cameras. I understand rules and surveillance in order to maintain a nice atmosphere but this campground feels less like camping and more like a basic training camp. The cabin was the best part. It wasn’t clean but it was beautiful and located right on the lake. You must get your own towels and toilet paper don’t forget!!!! Now for my biggest complaint…… We stayed Friday, Saturday, and left Sunday. Friday and Saturday water wrist bands cost my family of 4 approx. $60. On Sunday after check out, we had to purchase new bands for that day if we wanted to stay and play in the water. Fine. $30 later the four of us were able to go back into the water for the day. Everything was going wonderful until I was in the water with the Three kids and my fiancé and his friend were approached by Chris. Chris advised my fiancé that she’s aware “the lady in the red bathing suit” is wearing a thong and she needs to put on a cover up or leave. Mind you, this comes right after a gentleman walked by, holding a lit cigarette and beer, down the beach, and on my third day wearing the same suit. My bathing suit was not a thong. I’ll attach a photo of the back. It was completely offensive and humiliating to be told you’re dressed inappropriately AT THE LAKE where people are smoking cigarettes and drinking beer while they camp and swim. I was willing to look past I65 traffic all night long right beside the campground, the train tracks where trains use in the early hours of the morning a stone throw from the $500 cabins, the surveillance cameras all around you and the “radar enforced” 5mph speed limit. I was not able to look past being bathing suit shamed at the lake and having my fiancé come to me to relay the message, seeing as how Chris couldn’t approach me personally to discuss my NON thong bathing suit I chose to wear while I swam in a lake playing with my kids. I refuse to ever visit Caboose Lake again. Three police officers with their children all under 10 being treated like hoodlums.. It was completely disgraceful. We left 2 hours into our full day paid Sunday swim. Listen to the reviews!!! Go find another campground where you’ll find peace, freedom, and not Chris.

UPDATE! I sadly have to update my review. Our stay was nice, we had a great time. The weather wasn’t the best but we still had fun. It was after the weekend that changed my point of view for the getaway. I got a call from the office asking if we had any issues during our stay and I said no, and then asked why. I was told that one of the globes on the ceiling fan in the downstairs living area has cracked. I said, we didn’t touch any of the ceiling fans. Then I asked her about the storm. It was quite a storm too. High winds, rain, hail, thunder and cloud-to-ground lightning too. We also lost electricity for a bit and it flickered a lot during the storms. I know a sudden burst of electricity could’ve caused that crack but she wouldn’t listen to me. She did offer to talk to maintenance and the cleaning staff about it as well. After a couple of hours, I was called again, only to be told I would be charged. It was $50 for the damage. Which honestly, isn’t bad but it really wasn’t about the money, it was the principle of it. My honesty and the fact that it stormed pretty bad, was not taken into consideration. I have been recommending this place to my family for 2 years and I was going to recommend it to my parents and give them a brochure. I’m not going to now and I’m going to have to share this with my family and friends because I don’t want what happened to me to happen to them. I did do some research and found out that someone bought this place recently so I’m leaving my original post below from two years ago because that stay had nothing to do with this stay. Just keep in mind if you decide to stay here, you may be charged for damages you didn’t incur. THE FOLLOWING REVIEW IS FROM 2 YEARS AGO: Huge shout to Jennifer!! She was absolutely awesome! From the moment i met her, all the phone calls, every time i came to the office, she was polite, informative, patient, and kind. not just to me but to my whole family. the deluxe cabin was perfect! Having a fridge, microwave, a shower, and AC was a huge plus! only thing i would recommend is a jam for the front door to keep it open. my grandkids loved the family fun zone!! Do i wish it was closer to cabins?! Yes! lol. Thank you for a wonderful stay! we will be back!

The place was great. My family as well as my parents and sisters family all camped here from the 17Aug18 to 20Aug18 and loved it. We had 3 campsites in B section and 4 kids that range from 9 to 5, and the kids had a blast. They kept talking about the hippo slide and blob. The place is very clean and well kept and the staff was very friendly. I took out the fishing boat and after about an hour and 45 minutes the battery died, they apologized and gave me a credit and allowed me to take the boat again the next day at no charge. I appreciate what they did and it allowed me to catch some nice fish too. They truly went above and beyond to make your stay great. Even the seasonal campers are nice, and one of them even loaned me his battery for his boat to get back to the dock when mine died. 1st rate seasonal campers and the owners are fantastic, kids can't wait to go back. Only drawback was it was a little noisy since you are right off the expressway but i knew that coming thhere and it wasn't a huge deal for me. Highly recommend this place. Nice place to get away for the weekend and will be back.

We stayed at site B17 and it was a waterfront site. There was about a 10 ft patch of grass between our site and the water but it was so overgrown with trees you couldn’t use the firepit. There are many more long term and seasonal campers here versus short stays. The sites are very close to each other and depending on your site, there is not much room. As other folks have mentioned, there are a LOT of rules of what you can and can’t do. However, it’s a private campground so they can make whatever rules they want. There are many signs stating 5 MPH but one of the workers and most long stay folks very rarely went that slow in their golf carts. The roads and sites are gravel and they were in decent condition when we stayed there in early August. The roads are really tight and it can be tough for two trucks to pass each other when there are lots of campers present. Be prepared to bring a long water hose because the utilities are setup up kind of weird. We were less than 10 ft from the water hookup but our neighbor was more like 40-50 ft. Full hookups are always great and we didn’t have any issues with the utilities. Main issue for this campground is the highway. During our one week stay, I did not sleep the first two nights because the trucks were so loud. Since it was cooler at night, our AC units weren’t kicking on very much so none of the highway noise was being filtered. Laundry facility was clean but hot during midday, they should put a fan in there… Three washers and three dryers ($2.50 for wash and dry) which we had no issues while using. The park water is softened and it almost felt too soft as I couldn’t get the soap to wash off… The lake water was very clean and we enjoyed a lap around the lake in a rented paddleboat and kayak. The water bouncy equipment looked great for the kids to play on but you have to pay for just about anything other than swimming. They’re closed for lunch from noon until 2 PM which seemed weird as that would be a great time to purchase a beach pass or rental equipment (just plan ahead). The camp store is small but they have a good number of camper supplies and other various stuff. The lawn maintenance folks weed whacked under our slide and tore our sewer hose. I mentioned it to the host upon check out and she graciously gave me a replacement hose and I wasn’t even asking for it to be replaced. That was a great notion on their part and really good customer service. If we were driving through and needed to stay a night or two, we would visit again, with sleep aids. Park Wifi was decent but some of the access points would randomly drop throughout the week. Verizon cell service was very good. Over the air tv antenna was very spotty and we didn’t get...

My husband and I picked this location because of the Caboose advertised. I looked at the website, and it looked really fun! We booked the "rustic cabin." I had some trouble booking. On the website, your choices for cabins are literally "deluxe cabin" and "rustic cabin," but the woman on the phone didn't know what the rustic cabin was. She kept asking if I wanted the small one, but since I'd never been there (or anywhere in southern Indiana), I had no idea, so that was a bit awkward.

Later, I saw there was a virtual tour on the website, so I clicked that. I was surprised to learn the campground hugs the freeway. This is totally my fault, as I didn't look at a map when I booked, just the pictures on the site, which don't show the freeway. The noise is incredible. My husband and I kept yelling "huh??" at each other because it is difficult to hear. The cabin itself was fine, and there is a bathroom right next to it (not just a port-a-potty, but one that flushes).

The showers were nice, and we tended to go late at night so that we didn't go to bed with beach water or campfire smoke on us. We stayed at the campground Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, so we just drove over to the showers (it's half a mile from the cabin) and parked in an empty camping spot. I'm not sure what it would be like on a weekend.

When we got to the campground, we saw a sign that said "Wood $5 a bundle, free delivery." I asked the girl at the counter when it would be delivered. The owner was standing right there. The girl said that they weren't going to deliver any wood that day (we got there on a Sunday) because they were going to clean campsites for the upcoming week. I wish the employees had a bit more of a can-do attitude. They rode golf carts all over the campsite that afternoon to pick up and could have easily stopped by our site with wood and made us very happy.

The beach is nice. On the first day I wore water shoes but the second I didn't because it's sandy. It wasn't worth it to buy the extra wristbands, though. The girl at the counter only gave us one day's wrist band and said we couldn't take them off if was wanted our second day wrist bands (you have to go get a new wrist band from the office each day, even if you buy the 2 days for $20 pass). I asked if we had to sleep and shower with them on, and she said yes. I think the employees of this campground are more on the defensive, whereas being on the "yes, I can help" side makes people happier. I used to work at a campground and know it can be tough (people are grumpy about everything), but customer service often involves being on the side of helping while following the rules, or going a little bit beyond...
