We stumbled upon the cottages last minute, after the place we've stayed at for years with my grandparents longer allowed pets. The manager of that place came and knocked on our door and told us that the dog need to leave, that we could board him nearby. We were absolutely heartbroken and refused to lock up my 13-year old 7 lb Chihuahua, who is sweet as can be and has NEVER been boarded since we rescued him 7 yrs ago from someone who caged him nearly 24/7... So we took to Google and searched "pet friendly cottages." The cottages of wolfeboro was the first place I called, after looking at different destinations and pictures of places. There was a certain charm to The Cottages that drew us in even from the pictures. After a super friendly, professional five-minute phone call with Dave I knew in my heart this was the place to stay, he even gave me a decent deal that first night after I explained my story to him. Our plan was to just stay there one night and bring my special needs sister back to my grandparents condo in the a.m., and just camp somewhere the next two nights. Long story short we stayed that night, dropped my sister off in the morning at the non dog friendly condo and after a lovely day in the area called Dave and asked what the cost would be for two additional nights. I was given a quote I couldn't refuse, especially considering the 24 hour service, kayaks, bikes, lovely outdoor area, and helpful management crew on hand. On our "last day" we even ended up adding another additional night, totaling 4 nights. We just couldn't seem to leave this place. I literally was in tears when we did go.
My boyfriend, sister, and I were in cottage number 3. When we called there was only one cottage available. I felt so thankful to have a pet friendly place I didn't even care what it looked like inside. But WOW, I was overcome with emotions when I entered cottage 3. It was absolutely perfect and carried a peaceful calm vibe that we SO needed. When I went towards the beds and saw a sign between them that read "remember the days blessings, forget the days troubles" I started crying like a baby, I felt like I was meant to stay in this particular cottage. It had been a tough few years for us, including family deaths, financial instability, depression, traumas, just life. This little getaway in this cottage was exactly what we needed to reset, re-evaluate, and focus on what we want in our future. Not to mention I was so happy to spend time with my wonderful fur-baby and let him enjoy his vacation too! We used the kayaks and it was AMAZING! Jodie is the on-site manager and she was wonderful, super sweet, really helpful and on top of things. I totally would love to literally live in one of these cottages, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Dave, Wendy, Jodie-- You guys seriously rock, keep doing what you're doing. There is such an oldtime feel here, but with certain modern amenities like WiFi and cable TV. Its the perfect combination of past days and modern times, while providing a much needed break from daily life. Thank you for making this affordable for us to stay here, we will 100% be back, hopefully before the...
Read moreOur family of 4 (children 2 & 5) stayed in Cottage #11 for 8 nights. The cottages were super clean and tidy and had just about everything we needed! (Only suggestion would be to add a frying pan to the kitchen!). Everyone working at the cottages was very friendly and helpful with local information. Had our children been a bit older, the loft area would have been a perfect sleeping arrangement. This particular cottage had a small "closet" area in the bathroom which perfectly fit the port-a-crib, and so this is where our littlest one spent the nights. We had tons of fun on the tire swing and playing tether ball, walking to playgrounds (check out the hidden one near the elementary school that's completely wooden - so cool!), and walking downtown. The downtown area had plenty for us all to explore and was a much larger stretch of stores/restaurants than I had imagined. We visited nearby Albee Beach which was perfect for our kids - clean, clear, and clam. We visited Castle in the Clouds, which was amazing, and drove then hiked to Abenaki Tower which had an unbelievable view of the lake from high above. Story Land was only an easy 1 hour drive away - a day trip that was well worth it. In short, we absolutely loved our visit and would recommend these cottages and this...
Read moreWe loved our stay in Wolfeboro, especially at the cottages! What a great area. Our cottage had 2 beds, a lovely bathroom and a kitchen / dining area. The outdoor space was great with a large picnic table as well as 2 adirondek chairs and umbrella. A charcoal stocked grille made cooking easy! There was also a toaster oven, 2 range top burners and a microwave. Plenty of cooking utensils etc, just bring what ya need to cook with!
TV was small but had a roku. We didnt really know how to work it but we werent inside much anyways!
Albee beach is a 5 min drive and BEAUTIFUL! Downtown is a 10 min walk or 5 min ride and has great shops and restaurants. We loved The Wolfetrap which is on the other side of the water, maybe 10 mins by bike, 5 by car.
Great breakfast spots too! We loved the creperie right by the old train station (turned jet ski rental)
The cottages are great, there is a common area with more picnic tables and chairs as well as games. There are also first come first serve bikes and kayaks!!
Michelle was lovely to meet and they take Covid seriously so you can feel comfortable knowing you are...
