We checked into the two-bedroom suite in the Farmhouse building on this property. The suite is spacious but it was not clean. In the bathroom, there was dust over the tiling and the top of the toilet had residue on it. The shower off one of the rooms was small and the spray head is improperly installed. We expected that the room would be cleaned daily as in any regular hotel, but this did not happen. Empty toilet paper rolls were not replaced. Empty Kleenex boxes were left empty. Surfaces showed dust that had been there a long time. We complained to the front desk about how the room had not been cleaned and were told that cleaning was not done every day. I asked the staff person whether she felt that it was normal for a hotel that advertises itself as 4-star location not to clean the rooms every day and she said she had stayed in many hotels that did not clean the rooms daily. Hmmm. Not a good sign. There was a dishwasher in the room but no detergent to put in it! That makes it pretty hard to clean your own room, even if you have to do it yourself. If guests are required to do their own cleaning please put this information on your website! The Farmhouse building itself is poorly insulated so that we could hear sounds from people above us. There is a gravel path leading to the building and an unpaved lot in front, so that when you check in you have to pull your suitcase over rocks, and when it rains (as it did when we were there) the parking lot becomes muddy. Why don't they pave this lower parking lot where the Farmhouse suites are located? The main issue for us was the lack of cleanliness in the rooms. It is hard to believe that a hotel like this takes such a casual attitude toward cleaning. The staff seemed unconcerned about this issue and did nothing to correct the situation. We ate dinner in the hotel dining room. Over air-conditioned. The server forgot to bring one of the appetizers and we waited 15 minutes for her to realize that she had forgotten to bring it. Not professional. We would not recommend this property. Find a cleaner and more professionally run hotel where the staff actually cares about the guests. If you do stay here, remember to bring your own toilet paper and dishwasher detergent. A vacuum cleaner would also be useful to...
Read moreMy husband and I took our 12 and 9 year old for their first ski trip and stayed at the inn for 5 days. We arrived the day after Christmas. The moment we walked in we fell in love with the decor and cleanliness. It truly felt like we walked into a Hallmark movie! ||During our stay we had to opportunity to enjoy all the inn had to offer.|| The Bistro: We ate breakfast at the Bistro every morning. We enjoyed delicious homemade pancakes, waffles, French toast, bacon and assorted baked goods. The morning staff was amazing. They were continuously monitoring and refilling the food. Additionally, they were very attentive to cleaning up and making sure all areas were kept clean. The kids loved having the option to make hot chocolate anytime during the day. They also enjoyed cookie decorating in the afternoon. We had dinner one night in the Bistro as well. Our meal was farm fresh and delicious. Ryan our server was very attentive. ||The Library: One of our favorite spots in the Inn was the library. This quaint, quiet space provided us with quality family time. My husband taught myself and our kids how to play pool. ||The Game Room: This was a huge hit with my 9 year old. He loved shooting hoops and playing air hockey. ||The Pool and Sauna: We throughly enjoyed the heated pool and sauna after being on the slopes all day. This was definitely a huge bonus and plus to our trip.||Our Room: We stayed in a double queen room. This was perfect for our family of 4. The beds were extremely comfortable. The heated towel bar and coat hooks behind the door were amazing features for our ski trip! We also loved rocking in the rocking chairs on our balcony, sipping on hot cocoa, looking at the stars at night under a blanket. ||506 on the River met every expectation we had as a family visiting Vermont. The cleanliness of the inn, the friendliness of the staff, with the exception of the person who welcomed us and checked us in, the delicious food, all of the family friendly amenities available truly made our trip a memorable one! ||If there was one thing I found missing and would love to have available in the future it would be...
Read moreMy husband and I were really looking forward to a mini vacation in Woodstock, VT with our 2 year old. This was to be our first getaway since the pandemic and I wanted to make sure we stayed at a reputable place. 506 on the river inn seemed like the perfect place that's super family friendly with advertised all day coffee and cookies provided (didn't have this likely due to pandemic), pool, and s'mores every evening with a large lawn for picnics with views of the mountains and river. Our overall stay was mediocre and certainly not worth the price (almost $1000 for 2 nights!). I guess it's considered peak season for fall although 99% of the trees were bare. We stayed in a "suite" on the ground floor. I was immediately disappointed when we entered our room as it was not how it was advertised on their website. There were no decorative pillows or throw blankets on our beds as shown in the pictures and the sitting area in the 2nd room was instead an attached room with a full sized bed with a small tv awkwardly placed in the corner. There were two chairs for sitting as well with one of them slightly stained. The carpeting was less to be desired with areas of tattered rug and questionable cleanliness. The receptionist told me all the suites are this way and none were available on another floor (although the placed seemed nearly empty)... I did appreciate the lawn with a playground and multiple areas to sit, including chairs right next to the river. We got zip lock bags to make s'mores the first night, but the fire had gone out before 7PM and so we had to forgo that. The graham crackers were all broken and marshmallows were stale anyways. The highlights I would say are the take away breakfasts which were nice and convenient as well as the pool which is very nicely maintained. We still enjoyed our time in Woodstock and the hotel was fine overall, but it didn't live up to our expectations esp. for the cost of our stay. We won't be staying...
