As another review mentioned, we made reservations here months in advance. My husband and I were from out of town on our honeymoon. When we arrived, they seated us in the small bar room at a table we literally couldn’t fit at, despite our reservations specifically saying we reserved a table in the dining room. A kind lady sitting at the bar had to move over a seat so we could fit at the table. Still we were determined to make the best of it. We ordered drinks and appetizers, both of which were very good; however, the appetizers and drinks came and our waitress never returned to take our order. We had to try to eat the appetizers at the tiny table with all the menus still on the table. I knocked my husbands fork off the table, and he got up, picked it up, and placed it on the empty table next to us. The waitress came flying over asking “what’s wrong with the silverware”… my husband explained it fell on the floor and he didn’t want to place dirty silverware on our already crowded table. The waitress rolled her eyes at him, grabbed the fork and ran away shaking her head in disgust. Still, no one took our order. No one brought new silverware.
Another party was seated at the table next to us and also complained that their reservation was for the main dining room. They were promptly moved into the dining room. At this point, someone else came into the bar and was trying to squeeze into the seat behind my husband. The person was literally sitting against my husbands back. Given how uncomfortable we were and how horribly the waitress had just treated us, we thought it was best to just settle our bill and leave. At this point, most others would have just walked out, but I was sure to pay for what we ate.
When we got up and asked for the bill, the waitress started screaming at us, saying she has no control over where people get seated. I calmly told her I understood that, but it was the attitude and total experience that we didn’t want to deal with and ruin our evening. She continued to scream at me, telling me we were throwing silverware. I just stood there looking at her, incredulous that after everything she was yelling at us and implying we would throw silverware! I finally put my hand up and told her to please stop. I just wanted to pay and leave. She continued to go off on me as I signed the check. It was the absolute worst experience I have ever encountered at a “fine dining” establishment, and I’ve been to many.
Still, I didn’t react by posting a bad review. I emailed the restaurant to explain the situation and suggested they don’t seat people in the bar when they reserve the dining room. That email was sent almost two weeks ago and I’ve never gotten a response back.
There are so many small business, farm to table restaurants in the area…. Save yourself a headache and go to one of the other ones! Wasted $40 and an hour of our time just to get yelled at by a...
Read moreUnfortunately, my husband and I did not have a great experience here. We were traveling from out of town and had made a reservation two months ago for a fine dining experience. When we arrived, they sat us in the cramped bar area instead of the main dining room. I went up to the hostess table and kindly asked if there was a chance we could sit in the main dining room since that is what my reservation stated. The hostess staff acted very put out by this and one even stated that if we didn’t want the table we could leave and she could “sell the table” easily. I was very surprised by her condescending tone. Thankfully another hostess stepped in and let us know she could sit us in the dining room as we had booked it. The waiter who served us was very friendly and the food was excellent however, due to the initial encounter with the hostesses it made for an overall unpleasant experience. I will never quite understand people who work in the service industry who are rude to their customers, especially when you are paying the prices at an establishment such as O&E. Front staff may need to have some soft...
Read moreI'm not really one to write a review, but what a cute little spot! The dining room is small, but not overcrowded, and the staff is friendly even by Woodstock standards.
My server (Olli? If my receipt is to be believed) was phenomenal, and at her suggestion I went with the seared foie gras & ahi tuna as a starter with a half serving of the house gnocchi as my main. Every bite was fantastic. From the way melt in your mouth foie gras to what I am convinced might be an actual pillow gnocchi, I truly loved every moment. Each component was fresh and homemade in a way that really embodies Vermont's culture and is rarely found back home in the city.
You can really see it too, the chicken coops are visible from the dining room (in a classy way) alongside the grounds with their gardens and huge trees. It down poured during my visit and the fog over the woods through the huge window at the back of the dining room was...
