We stayed at The Jackson 31 years ago for our 10th anniversary. It was a 5/5 experience then! One of the best bed and breakfast experiences ever! ||We recently decided to spend New Year's Eve in Woodstock on a last-minute whim. We were very fortunate to get their last available room. When we arrived, we were welcomed by "Lea", the live-in Manager. Since we last stayed, they have automated the check-in process requiring no human interaction but Lea happened to be at the front desk. She gave us a lovely tour of the inside and made sure we knew how to reach her if we needed anything. Our room was very nice (small but it was the last available room). It was impeccably clean. ||We sat by the downstairs fire for New Year's Eve and had a wonderful evening. ||Regretfully, as you will see in past reviews, we woke to a not-so-great breakfast. It was somewhat "blah". It was a buffet comprised of two types of bread (ex. banana), berries (strawberries the first day and blueberries the second), granola, plain yogurt, and quiche (two options). The quiche seemed reheated. We were told the property has gone through many owners and the new owners chose this revised (limited) breakfast offering. When we had stayed here in the past, we remember being served hot breakfasts of our choice prepared by the owners. The new breakfast setup is a real disappointment and not a great representation of the property or experience.||When we last visited they had a quaint bar where the owners made us specialty drinks and provided us a wine-welcoming gathering. The bar was not open on our last visit. ||When we visited The Jackson years ago it was a true "Bed and Breakfast" experience. The owners were on-site and went out of their way to interact and make sure you enjoyed your stay. You felt like you were staying in their home and the experience was special. Today the Jackson seems more like an "Inn/hotel" with little warmth or special offerings/interactions. ||The property itself is still gorgeous! The location is perfect (less than 2 miles to downtown). ||Lea, the on-site Manager was very kind and accommodating, and "Richard" (who fills in for Lea on occasion) was very warm, interesting, and...
Read moreIf you are a Type A clean freak, this is the inn for you. The innkeepers, Robin and Jeffrey, run a tight ship and it shows. It's the kind of property I dream of staying in. It is well maintained, clean, quaint and cozy. They offer the epitome of what you would expect from a Select Registry property.
Our room was spotlessly clean. I will repeat - spotlessly clean. No. Dust. Anywhere. This is one of the first things I notice when lodging away from home. The room was immaculate. The bed and bedding were comfortable and cozy. (And layered, which helps during the fall season).
The entire inn was immaculate as well. Floors were clean. Furniture was tidy. Bookshelves looked like design pieces - again, with no dust. Nothing was sticky. Or tired looking. Or neglected. You can tell this property is run by the best of the best.
The breakfasts were huge, with a great variety and plenty to go around. They served it at a bar so you could go back for seconds, versus being served a small plate and hoping you'll make it until lunch. The food was like something your grandma made and left you wanting more! more! more! A hearty breakfast of meat and cheeses, delightful homemade pastries, homemade yogurt and granola with berries and a protein offering were enough to keep my husband I satisfied until dinner - even with our days being quite active.
Robin and Jeffrey are the crème de La crème of innkeepers. I am extremely picky and can almost always find issues with places I stay, primarily centering around poorly cleaned rooms and poorly maintained properties. Not at Jackson House Inn. Both the indoor and outdoor lounge areas were clean and tidy. I was delighted to stay in a place that far exceeded my Type A expectations. Do yourself a favor and book your stay here. You won't regret it. Thank you Robin and Jeffrey for providing what I consider to be an over the top...
Read moreMy husband and I were looking for a cozy spot to spend a quick trip to Vermont, and came across Woodstock as a location. We eventually chose this inn because it seemed to have everything we wanted at the ideal price point. We honestly couldn't have chosen a better place to stay for our first time in Vermont! We are a military family and have traveled quite a bit. The Jackson House Inn is easily one of the BEST experiences we have ever had in our journeys. Matthew and Chris are kind and gracious. They go out of their way to ensure their guests feel welcomed and have anything they could possibly need. Their dedication and attention to the care of their guests is what sets them apart from the rest.
We stayed in the Christine Jackson room, which had a lovely gas fireplace and large massage bath tub. I will dream about that bath tub until I see it again! The room was impeccably clean and spacious. The sitting rooms in the inn are inviting and beautifully decorated. The landscape is also cleverly designed to allow guests to enjoy the property with a sense of privacy. Throughout the property they provide hot tea, cocoa, coffee, water, soft drinks, and seltzer water, and an evening tasty treat. My husband's favorite part was the included breakfast. I have to say, this was the best breakfast we have ever had while traveling. It tasted 100% gourmet and did not disappoint. The inn itself is located perfectly for enjoying Woodstock. We were able to visit 7 covered bridges, the Quechee Gorge and village, Sugarbush Farm, Simon Pearce, Farmhouse Pottery, and walk around town all within a day's time. There is so much to do in the area that everyone can find something to their liking.
We will definitely be back again and highly recommend...
