What a pleasant surprise. We normally stay at a different hotel just because that is what we knew. We decided to check this one out this time. I did see pictures and read some reviews but still we were surprised. We got the first floor, don’t let that fool you. You can still see the beach water, you just can’t see the people. What we liked about the first floor was that we could have one go in through the front and come unlock the sliding glass door so we could take our stuff off and leave it to dry out there along with our beach chairs. I always take a plastic table cloth for everyone else to sit on or stand to take their stuff off to not get sand in the hotel but no need this time. They have showers to wash off right there after you come off the beach so an extra plus. You are literally staying in a one bedroom apartment. Our son goes with us, so it was nice to have our own room and him have the pull out couch and us have the king size bed for us with two entry ways to the bathroom, one from our room and one from the hall. Yes it’s true, the master bedroom does not have a window going to the beach. We didn’t care. When we got up we opened the curtains and enjoyed. Full size kitchen with dishwasher, full stove and microwave and full size refrigerator. They provide coffee filters to a full size coffee pot but you need to bring your own coffee. Not a problem. I take stuff with us so we eat breakfast and Lunch at the motels while enjoying the beach and then shower and off to downtown Riverwalk. Front street brewery is all place to go eat. We love it and for 3 of us to eat it’s less than $50 at dinner with awesome food, nice people and good portions sizes. The beach and Riverwalk are what we usually do. I can’t say enough enough about this. Some have said you hear the night life, we only heard it when we went down to the beach at night but at the hotel I didn’t hear anything and we use a box fan that we always take with us so we didn’t hear anything. There is a pool and vending machine. The people that work here are amazing. Oh and a bonus. Weirdly enough we had rabbits outside our doors that came out in the evening so of course I went and got some romaine lettuce. The floor do not have carpet and they provide a full broom and dustpan. They literally thought...
Read moreWe love the Surf Suites! We're here now. You just can't beat the location and the views from your private balcony. The rooms could use some minor updating, fresh paint, exterior blue doors need some attention and bathroom tubs need to be reglazed or replaced, but it doesn't keep us from returning. We run a family business just north of this place and when we don't have availability, we always send people down to you all at the S.S.(Surf Suites). We've sent a lot of business to you over the many years that we've been in operation at Wrightsville Beach! :) My husband and I on occasion will rent here when our rooms are all booked up. We appreciate having a room as well as a parking spot so close to our own business to walk back and forth to. So thank you! My apologies for all of the uncertainty with our reservations as things can change with us too as people cancel, book, etc. I know all too well that it's the nature of running this type of business. Thankfully, we always fill up as I'm sure you all do too. So we appreciate you all being flexible with us as our plans can and usually change. I understand it isn't ideal to do that so I do apologize. I hope you will still allow us to stay again in the future. We absolutely love it here and hope to someday...
Read moreImmediately upon entering the suite, we were overcome with a vile odor of mold, mildew and cigarette smoke. We had travelled from out of town and had to be at a wedding reception at the Yacht Club in 1/2 hour, so we had no time to deal with a room change. We turned the a/c off to prevent continuous circulation of the same nasty odor and opened the porch doors in attempt to air the place out while gone. No such luck! The odor was just as bad. Went to the office to request air freshener, which she could not locate. The clerk offered to move us to the room below, which we politely declined, knowing well we could run into the same issue & we were too tired. We slept with the a/c off, porch sliders open and awoke to the same odor, along with the occupants below smoking on their porch. After packing our car & stopping to eat and run a few errands-our car and all our belongings have acquired the same offensive odor. Needless to say, we will never stay at the Surf Suites again, nor recommend to our many Wilmington friends to offer it as an option for out of town guests. By far-the most disappointing stay we’ve ever had.Other than the beautiful view of the gorgeous beach we spent most days enjoying while living there 20+ years. BEYOND...
