Yachats truly is the gem of the Oregon coast. Living in the Eugene metro, there's nothing better than dipping away in the off-season and spending a lazy weekend there to reset and recharge.
Overleaf is fantastic and super accommodating in all ways. Staying there gets you access to their soaking pools and top tier spa ammeneties overlooking the ocean. The spa staff bend over backward to make it a truly luxurious experience. They use Aveda products, their changing rooms are beautiful. Both wet and dry saunas in them. You'll be walking around in your complimentary bath robe eating complimentary chocolates in no time. They offer other typical spa services that I haven't used, such as massages, but im sure they're great. Certain hours are for hotel guests only.
I used the overleaf gym while there and was pleased with being able to do that. Cycling, ellipticals, treadmills, etc. But with free weights and cable machines to boot. There's a library, meeting spaces, computer space etc.
They run midweek deals where bringing canned goods can score you a nice % off your rates. During our last check-in, we arrived later in the evening, and they offered complemetary drinks (adult and NA options). Want to rent a movie? Check out their huge DVD collection and check a couple out to take to your room. Grab some snacks from their shop.
They serve breakfast in the mornings, have a great wine selection, and their lobby is huge and gorgeous and doubles as a space for showcasing local arts, crafts & gifts. Staff are well versed in what to do and what to see and are happy to help arrange that.
When we asked for a late checkout, they didn't hesitate. They're just north of town, and it takes two seconds to get there to enjoy all of the restaurants and natural areas.
We enjoyed our king-size bedroom with jacuzzi tub and balcony overlooking the rocky coast. Not a single room is bad from cheapest to the suites with full kitchens.
Next door is the fireside motel (their sister hotel). Fireside is a bit older but has the same amazing rooms and staff. Of note, Fireside allows pets to stay. So lots of friendly dogs being walked along the trails. If you stay at fireside, you get deals for using the overleaf spa. You can walk back and forth between the two hotels and their surrounding spaces. The popular walking trail that starts in town and travels north cuts through both hotel grounds with rocky views of ocean and everything the oregon coast is famous for.
I've never needed one, but both hotels do offer separate stand alone group sites that are essentially houses located in the woods around the campuses.
My only gripe is with yachats exposure in general. Having been visiting for nearly 4 decades since being a tiny kid, the town has hit several top 10 lists for traveling, and the Oregonian has blown up this space multiple times over the years by running similar top 10 lists to visit. The best part of some of these spaces has been their distance from the north coast tourist towns that get overrun by Portlanders, like seaside for example.
Not knocking the vibe of places like that, but the further south you go on the coast, the more of it you'll have to yourself. Yachats was always more of a gem for the city folk in the southern part of the willamette valley. That's clearly changing quickly.
Obviously, this is a boon for yachats and just a selfish observation from me. So it is what it is.
With that having been said, ill warn you that if it's peak season, mid summer, gorgeous weather, then be prepared for this sleepy town to be overrun by visitors, and expect everything that comes with that: reservations only for spots, higher rates, parking issues, terrible drivers from other states, rude travelers with no chill, rentals and resorts with no vacancy etc.
I'm more a fan of getting out there on a drizzly day or a cold, sunny winter day, midweek.
What never changes are the locals and their immense generosity and kindness everywhere. Great laid-back hippie sailor vibes. And now wildcraft Cider Works relocated there from...
Read moreI'm disappointed in my experience with the Yaquina cottage at Overleaf Cottage Rentals. We were supposed to stay for two nights. I stayed several times at the Overleaf Lodge and I enjoyed my previous hotel stays very much. This was my first time renting a cottage. The 30 day cancelation window is something to watch out for. I would've preferred to stay in the hotel anyway because it was just me and my husband (my other family couldn't make it) but we were already within the 30 day cancelation window for the cottage. My main complaint is the beds downstairs. They were the most uncomfortable beds I've ever tried sleeping on. My back hurt and I couldn't sleep. The mattress was so firm and every move you make you can hear the springs or frame going nuts. I asked the hotel if they would be so nice as to allow us to sleep in the hotel for the second night because I know they have good mattresses there. They said they can't do that and the mattresses are the same in the cottages as the hotel. Her solution was "we can give you some extra bedding to make it more comfy!" I found this very hard to believe so I checked the tags on the mattresses and saw they were manufactured in 2010. I asked the front desk when did they replace their hotel mattresses, she said 2021. So then I said "Well then they're not the same mattresses in the hotel and cottage. And these cottage mattresses are so old and uncomfortable that I am beyond frustrated that I spent $1000 to stay here, and I know I can't stay on these mattresses a second night because my back still hurts from last night." She said she would call the facility manager to figure out why the mattresses were older in the cottages. I said I want a full refund. She said they can refund me only one night. So we cut our trip short and left after that first night. Now I'm back home and it's the next day, but I'm still feeling pain in my lower back from that awful mattress, and I'm down $527. I still believe they should refund me for the first night too because I have been a loyal customer of the hotel for several years now and I'm really disappointed in this experience. I hope this back pain goes away soon. It's just really irritating because the one thing you really want when you go on a trip is a comfortable place to sleep. Her fake cheerful tone and empty solutions also made me mad, to be honest. It made me feel invalidated and it made it feel impersonal. They were also supposed to call me back after talking to the facility manager about the old mattresses and they never did. Maybe it's because they feel they've resolved the issue by refunding the one night, but I still want to talk to a manager about my experience and I want them to validate my concerns.
edit: I knew they would bring up these "solutions" and say that I rejected them. I rejected them because they weren't real solutions. Also I didn't realize that I could still talk to the manager because you also told me to go get my keys and leave before 2pm in order to get the one night refund so I rushed over to get the keys. You didn't explain that I could still talk to the manager after that if I wanted to. And I didn't approach the front desk with "various concerns," I approached with my concern that the bed is crappy (and yes it stunk upstairs but that's besides the point because I was willing to sleep downstairs and it doesn't matter because the bed upstairs was old too) and I needed to figure out a solution other than "extra bedding" because I knew that wouldn't work and I didn't want to risk having more back pain and another sleepless night. And I didn't approach the front desk after checking in-- I approached the desk several times the following morning after my sleepless night to figure out a solution. Why are you trying to make me feel bad about approaching the desk multiple times? You weren't providing a real solution until finally at least you refunded me one night. If you guys updated your freakin mattresses on time none of this would've been an issue, so don't try to...
Read moreMy beautiful wife, Danielle, and I had an amazing experience. The Overleaf Lodge and Spa is a secret treasure in the small humble town of Yachats. We traveled from Klamath Falls on our first trip to Yachats. The drive on Highway 101 is beautiful. Danielle and I were in awe of the mountains and ocean. We arrived at the Overleaf and were very pleased with the landscaping of the entryway. The fact that we almost booked our honeymoon at Adobe Resort made our stay at the Overleaf even more special. The entryway to Adobe Resort is plain and not impressive.
My beautiful wife and I were greeted at the front desk by Jesus, the same gentleman who convinced us over the phone that the Overleaf Lodge and Spa is where we want to spend our honeymoon. Jesus booked our stay in the Restless Waters Room #205. We were so excited to see the room, we checked in and went up to see the room before getting our luggage out of our rental car. The view of the ocean from the room is stunning. Danielle, immediately, noticed the very soft comfort of the floor. I took off my shoes and the floor felt/feels like memory foam pillows! The Restless Waters Room is warm, spacious, and romantic. The fireplace, the hot tub, the comfortable bed, the room decor, the patio view, the sound of the crashing of the waves exceeded our expectations. We had yet to see the rest of the hotel and we were overwhelmed in awe.
The Overleaf Spa is clean, peaceful, and luxurious. The Overleaf Spa staff was welcoming. The spa has private men and women's rooms with showers and personal lockers available. The spa has an amazing panoramic view of the ocean as so does the exercise room.
Jesus is very knowledgeable about the area. Jesus recommended excellent places to eat like The Drift Inn, Ona Restaurant and Lounge, and Luna Sea Fish House. Jesus recommended we go to Waldport to gas up our rental car. There was so much outdoor activity going on in Waldport, we stayed there over an hour, cruising around, sightseeing, and checking out the cute little candy shop called The Chocolate Frog which was open the week of our stay June 2019 (permanently closed now).
Before Danielle and I went to Waldport, we asked a housekeeper that happened to be on the 2nd floor to change the bed sheets in room 205. The housekeeper assured us that she would change the bed sheets while we were gone. When Danielle and I returned from Waldport, we noticed the housekeeper cleaned the room, replaced the bath towels with fresh bath towels, and made up the bed. I took a closer look at the bed and noticed the bed sheets were not changed like the housekeeper assured she would do. I called the front desk and informed Jesus about the situation. Jesus and the maintenance man on duty, immediately, brought clean bed sheets, apologized for the inconvenience, and gladly changed the bed sheets.
Overall, our stay in Yachats was amazing. We enjoyed a free wine tasting in the hotel lobby. We enjoyed breakfasts on the patio. We enjoyed a romantic walk on the 804 Trail. We enjoyed the rocky beach and sand beaches. We enjoyed meeting the locals in Yachats and Waldport. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the Overleaf that were friendly. One couple at the Overleaf congratulated us on our marriage and told us that they were celebrating their 28th Wedding Anniversary. Our experience our honeymoon was and is an overwhelming blessing and we plan to come back in a year to celebrate our 1st Wedding...
