It is so easy in this day and age to become accustomed to chain motels, where the service is standard and you know exactly what will happen and when...||Thank you Carlton-Marion for NOT following that! I had actually forgotten what personal, family run hotels were like, and I'm glad they brought me back to reality!||The owners have designed a place that will make you feel so at home! The rooms may not look like a Hilton, but you will be as comfortable! Throughout the room, there are plaques and models that make you feel like you are back at your Mom's or your Grandma's house. So very welcoming!||Our first 2 days were taking care of family stuff, but our final afternoon/night there were so enjoyable! We had seen the cats on the property, and a couple of them would beat us in the door sometimes, and we would have a blast with them, but on our final day, we sat outside our room, and found many friends, but they were both feline and human! We met and spoke to the owners, and have the ultimate respect for them and there business. Then, the cats! We had 2 to 3 that decided that we were theirs, and we spent hours outside with them! It was just the thing we needed to slow down and settle down and remember that life is best in the "not so fast lane".||I really want to thank the owners for being yourselves, and for being so truly welcoming. You have no idea how much we needed and appreciated this! I sincerely hope we can return and stay longer and even adopt a couple of the cats!||Thanks again for a trip we will...
Read moreI have to confess that I was never an outdoors person but over the last few years I'm learning to embrace and appreciate it. My wife who is from Arkansas has managed to get this Jersey born and raised guy up in Northern Arkansas on a trip to The Indian Rockhouse. So my review may come across as a little critical to some.||First the positives, I believe it was the owner who checked us in. He was very friendly and apologetic for the lightening strike that knocked out the internet service. The room was a nice size and we thought the bed was fairly comfortable. ||My only and biggest issue would be the cleanliness of the carpeted floor. We saw more than a few dead bugs...after throwing away the first couple we stopped. As I'm writing this review I'm realizing I'm not being critical. The carpets needed to be vacuumed. The other observation is the distance between the t.v and the bed. The volume had to be turned way up to cover the distance. T.V.'s for the most part don't have the best speakers but when you combine that to the distance it becomes a problem. So I guess what I'm realizing is if the carpets were cleaned and the tv were addressed, my rating would jump up...
Read moreThe Carlton is one of the best non-chain motels I've ever stayed in. Bobbi at the front desk is smart, kind, gracious and helpful with anything you may need. Parking is a little tight for large trucks and especially if you are towing you might not be able to fit here as this is a park-in-front-of-your-room type of motel. The rooms are clean and recently updated, though the single queen rooms (the only kind I saw inside of) are small, and the bathroom is smaller still but the shower (no tub) was quite roomy. Overall it was perfectly suitable for my needs. Unlike most motels in the lower price range, the Carlton includes a mini-fridge, microwave, 4-cup coffeemaker and hair dryer, all of which were in good condition and worked perfectly. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were better than average. The room was quiet though loud snoring or coughing can be heard through the walls a bit. In the backyard there's a pool, a grill and firepit with chairs to hang out with your party as well as other guests. I met several great people during my stay... It's Arkansas so most people are warm and welcoming - don't be shy! And then there are the cats! I will...
