Light Mekong is no longer in business. Completely shut down and abandoned. But the brand new hotel right next door is open for business and have the cutest puppy you have ever seen in your life greet you. They seem to want to provide a good service and for the most part do a good job. Refrigerator and water kettle AND coffee packets provided, even a hair dryer. Basic but good and useful furniture, simple but pleasant wall coverings, plants in rooms, quiet, locked entranceway for your moto or bike...all nice and new.
It's a new building so I assume they're still working through the final details, as the building has a few... "Vietnamese quirks", like water that doesn't drain in the shower quickly, bathroom sink that's pulling away from the wall as the holding screws were not installed properly, wi-fi that doesn't quite reach the 5th floor. Soft bed, but that sits on wood pallets instead of proper bed frame. But because the (one) staff member was so nice and everything else was great and well-intentioned, I didn't mind these...
Read moreThe room was really dirty! I first got a room where the bedsheets were super dirty covered in stains and smelly, the bathroom was a nightmare… hair everywhere on the floor, the sink was hanging from the wall and the toilet was dirty inside and outside. The second room I got wasn’t better. It was a two bed room and both beds were dirty, full of hair, stains and with a bed smell especially the pillows. Lots of hair on the floor and the shower was disguising. Water couldn’t go down because of too many hair. The sink was dirty with soap and toothpaste from previous guests. The room looked and smelled like it was occupied and not cleaned. I also found a piece of chocolate half melted on top of some shoes…Cheap doesn’t mean dirty! We also asked for help booking the bus ticket, the owner was in contact with the bus company and because of her we almost lost our bus. She gave us wrong information and she didn’t care when we asked for help a second time. I really don’t recommend...
Read moreAll though we were happy with the majority of our stay. Facilities and location were good. At the end of our stay we had the most stressful experience! This hotel promises a shuttle to the bus stop for your next bus. This was arranged the night before to be ready for 7:15am. When we arrived to reception in the morning, we were greeted by a lady who spoke no English and was trying to tell us our shuttle would be half and hour late and our bus left at 8am. It wasn’t just the fact that this could make us miss our bus but also the fact we were unable to communicate properly about the problem, in a stressful situation! We ended up having to run through the streets with all our backpacks trying to frantically find a taxi who would take us in time. Which also did work out well for us. We made it to the bus with 3 mins to spare and this was a horrid experience to have had at the end of the stay! DO NOT BOOK A SHUTTLE THROUGH THIS HOTEL! Organise your own...
