Almost great. We stayed one night here and were immediately impressed with the managers customer service. He greeted us when we parked our bikes and chatted with us about our trip so far. He then offered us a discount on a herbal bath so we could rest and recover our weary muscles after driving so far. The lodge just started showing its flaws from there on.
We would have loved to have enjoyed a relaxing tub but the one in our room had a massive leak so when we filled it halfway up the water poured out a very noticeable crack. Not sure how you possibly miss this considering it didn’t look to be a new issue. The tub had a lot of patchwork on it no doubt because of bad craftsmanship or cheap materials being used to make it. Our room itself was quite nice and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, we were also located adjacent to the kitchen where the staff were playing music and some renovation work was being done. Someone began using an angle grinder at 8am and would use it on and off for a couple of hours. Next to the hotel was a house with a dog that literally barked all night. Right out from of the restaurant, which was near our room, the men who were doing garden work as part of an expansion to the lodge burned excess trimmings and straw (common practise in Vietnam) resulting in large plumes of smoke which made everything smell like smoke for hours and prevented us from sitting on the balcony. The lodge has a pool area and small fitness room which looked quite nice. The only thing I’d complain about though is that in the pictures it looks like there are two smaller pools that one would not be at fault for thinking we’re hot pools because of their size and location. Well, all 3 are cold pools. This felt pretty misleading but also in line with what we have come to expect in Vietnam. It rained the next morning and the overhead cover outside our door where our shoes were leaked. We talked to the manager about this when we went down for breakfast and he said we could dry them in the dryer. When we were checking out later that morning there was a charge on our bill for laundry service. We had to then explain to the front desk staff that the shoes weren’t even washed and that we only needed to use the dryer because the roof leaked. It was resolved easily with a phone call but there was no mention that we would be charged prior to us checking out. One other strange occurrence was when we were sitting at the restaurant shortly after checking in and the manager walked over to a couple who too had recently checked in and brought them each a complimentary beer as a welcome drink. We noticed a welcome drink was included in our booking but we were never brought one. My partner went and inquired later and they brought us sweet tea.
We were looking forward to a relaxing time here but it ended up being a...

Read moreThe view is fantastic and the staff are very attentive. However, the good things stopped there for us.
It is very, very noisy early in the mornings. Perhaps we should've expected poor soundproofing given we were staying in a wooden bungalow. However, we do think there were a few extenuating situations that could've been avoided if the hotel staff were more considerate.
The space under each of the bungalows is used for storage, so we unfortunately had workmen under our bedroom at 6am, getting out equipment and being generally noisy.
There was also a construction tent behind the bungalows, where they would start work around the same time. When we enquired we were told it was they could make hot water for the pool. On the one hand, fair play; they appear to be acting on previous guests' complaints regarding pool not being heated. However, we would question why that work needs to begin so early when guests have booked in for a relaxing stay.
On one of the days, we had booked massages and a herbal bath for 3:30pm and they were again doing lots of construction on the floor above with drills and hammers. When we asked about the noise, the masseuse seemed angry. She saw that the construction stopped for the duration of our massage, but given how loud the noise was, it was disappointing we had to ask in the first place, and even more disappointing that her response was so curt.
Whilst we were there, they also kept a dog in a small cage near the restaurant, which barked near constantly when in it's cage. Again, the noise seemed to start around 6am and continued throughout breakfast, which didn't create a nice atmosphere and felt at odds with the peaceful jazz piano music they played.
The rooms are pleasant, but the beds were very hard and we found that would wake in the night with back pains (we are in our early 30s and do not have any back issues).
Overall, our stay here was incredibly inconsistent. Staff were polite, but seemed to lack an understanding of what constitutes a relaxing stay/atmosphere. We will not return, and would advise caution if you're looking for a peaceful retreat.
