This is our second trip to HCMC (formerly Saigon) so we preferred to have the true local feels rather than touristy place. We chose Kim Yen Hotel.||||It's very close to the airport, very local, yet, it met every standard you might need:||-Clean room with abundant hot water, very efficient air-conditioning, and friendly service||-Breakfast is minimal: choices of Fried eggs (sunny side up or omelet) with bread, or Vietnamese rice noodle soups. Plus orange juice (they use Tang), or instant coffee (could be Vietnamese style, which is with condensed milk)||-Every time they see you, they smiled and asked how you feel.||-When you needed a taxi, they call for you and while you were waiting for taxi, they served you ice tea.||||The Taxi fare from Kim Yen hotel to The Cathedral (at the beginning of Dong Khoi Street) where we made it as our point of starting our walk around town was from 4 US dollars a maximum 5 US dollars depending on traffic.||||From the Hotel, just cross the street, walk straight ahead and when you see the split after a few yards, take the left little street, walk a few yards, you will find an amazing Lounge called The Fig, where you can have a drink, or lunch (set lunch costs 1.70 US Dollars), a nice dish costs around 3 US Dollars)||||From the hotel, at the cross street, walk to the right, you will find a nice local Spa, where with 5 US Dollars, you can have a relax 1 hour hot oil massage, or walk a little further from this Spa, there was a place you can have your hair heavenly washed (with wash face, face massage, scalp massage, neck massage) for around 50,000 Dong ( around US Dollars 2.50)||||As we read other reviews, there must be some unfortunate misunderstanding so some travelers were not happy with Kim Yen Hotel. For us, it was really a nice experience that we will definitely come back if we visit HCM city again...
Read moreMy fiance and I stayed here over the Christmas / New Year break on our Vietnam trip.||Our impressions - small, damp, and unclean bedding - 1.5 star hotel.||I originally booked a hotel in District 7 but ended up booking this hotel after it was suggested by a relative and seeing some good reviews here on trip advisor (and not knowing how to differentiate between hotels).||When we arrived, we noticed the bedding was dirty, and asked the staff to change the sheets. After 5 different attempts to find clean bedding, we asked to change rooms. They moved us from floor 5 up to floor 7.||The room had dust and mold all around, especially under the air conditioner (we couldn't be bothered complaining as we were too tired and wanted to get to sleep).||We ended up having to ask staff to change the bedding on 5 occasions - often with the excuse that it was dirt, dust, hair and stains from the washine machine.||While some of the staff were courteous and helpful, others (especially those who did our bedding) had the "I'm doing you a favour" look, every time we asked them to change the sheets, and they kept trying to excuse away when we found pink stains, hair and other stain marks on the bedding.||Towards the end of our stay, one of the staff explained that it was a family business, so there wasn't much they could do.||The street noise was just bearable (and we were on level 7 of 8 floors). I can't imagine what it would be like trying to sleep if we were on lower floors.||Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone with sensitive skin, dust or skin allergies or over sensitive to hygiene / cleanliness, or if you need quiet...
Read moreGood value for the buck. Not far from the city center. A great place for "day" people, well connected by local buses. Not recommended for party goers, as it is far from the action and there's nothing around this area. Rooms are all the clean you can expect for this price range. Satisfactory imo. No traces of fluids from previous guests, no roaches. Flat TV and a bathtub. Hard to find anything better for this price (320 baht/night). Staff are kind , polite and discreet ;).
On the negative side, the bathtube comes without a stopper, so you have to get creative. A stopper "appeared" on my last day of stay which got stuck on place leaving the bathtub unusable. This could have happened by chance, or the hotel might had decide that my fare didn't include the privilege of a bathtub, who knows. Moreover, hot water becomes tepid after 7-8 pm. Nothing to criticize for this energy savings mindset on this price range. Water flows and boils during the day. In another note, this is one of the first hotels I have been where I had to pay for what is usually free complimentary water. They didn't get the minibar idea right. Not a big deal as it was just (overpriced) water, but it was the principle. Like some excuse to scratch the last dollar from my occupancy.
In all, a pleasant and comfortable place next to grocery shops, restaurants and we'll connected by public transport with bearable and perhaps understandable hues...
