Overall we had an excellent time, but I do feel that this venue falls short of my expectations for a full 5-star resort. 4-star would, in my view, be an appropriate rating.
The Good:
Location - far enough away from the city (Nha Trang) but not too far; so you can still get there VERY easily by taxi (readily available, waiting outside), or even get takeaway delivered from the multitude of available restaurants (more on that later).
Beach/Pool/Sea facilities - lovely private beach, not too big but never overcrowded, plus the seawater pool and the two freshwater pools (basically the kids/family one and the adult infinity pool). A daily swim at 6.30am in the deserted (heated) infinity pool was a highlight for me.
Overall service and staff - every member of staff is polite and does their best to help you. You can even interact with the site maintenance & gardening teams if you want. They've clearly been instructed to behave in this way, but they still do a very good job of it.
Breakfast - The breakfast buffet is an absolute highlight, and it shows as the resturant is usually packed by 8am (but not so much you can't use it!). There's a limited rotation of dishes between days. Food quality is variable between dishes but in general very high. We stayed for 10 nights and didn't get bored of this. Try the rock melon!
Overall cleanliness - Everywhere at this resort is kept impeccably clean - rooms, public spaces, paths, shared amenities, you name it.
The not so good: My justifications for this being 4 star are fairly straightforward.
Food (except breakfast) - The variety, given that there's only one restaurant, is pretty good and strikes a reasonable balance between local and international cuisine. Unfortunately the quality doesn't keep pace - at all - with food typically being impressively bland and uninspiring - even the local food. I'd put this side-by-side with what I'd expect from a mainstream "corporate event" venue; it's edible, but that's about it, and not what I'd expect from a 5-star resort. Interestingly it is quite good value; you can easily have a full meal for 2 for the equivalent of ÂŁ30, so perhaps that's the problem. The only saving grace here is that (assuming you didn't take half board plus) you can just get food from or in Nha Trang. I'll review some of those separately; there are some excellent choices.
General condition - A number of items, furniture, structures and so-on were quite tired in appearance. For example, leather coated liquid dispensing bottles of various types in hotel rooms where the corners have all degraded over time - they still work but they aren't pretty, failed grout in tiles EVERYWHERE (room, pools, basically anywhere there are tiles) & some pool bed cushions which are substantially discoloured but still usable. It just felt like some areas of the resort could do with a bit of TLC beyond general cleaning. Again, acceptable, but not 5-star. Service anomalies at the breakfast buffet - every morning we were promptly seated and asked exactly the same questions - what's our room number, and would we like any tea or coffee. Every day we ordered a cappucino and an english tea with milk. Some days, this worked, but mostly it didn't. The cappucino often failed to arrive until half way through the meal, and the tea either turned up without milk at some point, or something else went wrong - one day the milk turned up but no tea! Some days I resorted to resolving this myself as I knew where to get these items. This is more of a niggling issue; it felt like the breakfast staff were overstretched. If there isn't capacity to get this right, fine, but don't offer to do it, and we'll serve ourselves!
As I led with, overall we were very happy with our experience here and have no regrets. I'd happily recommend this resort to others, just with the knowledge of the issues above such that they...
Read moreBefore venting about my worst 5 star hotel experience, I'd like to acknowledge that the hotel has some good points: Really good buffet breakfast. During our long trip we stayed in 2 other hotels: Sheraton and Movenpick. Amiana definitely has the best buffet breakfast out of the 3. Some really friendly & nice staffs at the restaurant - we love them! Manager is friendly & dedicated (he said hi to us at the hall a few times and always smiled at guests) Salt water pool
We took the trip in June-July in a big group (4 rooms) but I only have time to write a review now:
Incident 1: we went to the city central for dinner at a local restaurant. My old parents & 6 yrs old son took cab back to the hotel first. He felt asleep in the cab. My mother requested for a buggy at the front desk because they struggled to carry him back to the room (he was 6 years, 28kg and asleep). They were made to wait for around 10 minutes then one guy came to them and asked for the room number. He then said "why do you have to use a buggy it's so near" and he left. My parents then tried to wake my son up and each took one of my son's hand and dragged him back slowly to the room which was around 50m-70m away.
Incident 2: [disclaimer: this incident might have something to do with the fact that I was natively Vietnamese so if you are foreigners, you might receive a different treatment]. At the checkout, one safe was locked without us knowing the password. My son was playing with the safe and locked it with random numbers. While we were trying to get him to remember which numbers he put in, the lady doing the checkout informed my husband that there was a laundry bag missing from the same room so we had to pay for it. The extra cost is less than 10 dollars but I did not like their implying that we took it. I told them that my son probably put it in the safe so it must be there but they did not comment on this possibility (as they did not believe us) while i tried to provide them with different combinations to try on the safe. I doubled check with my mom if she accidentally packed it and tried to describe to her how the bag looks like "it's a cotton bag..". At which point, the lady interrupted and said CONDESCENDINGLY "it's a linen bag.." I got really angry at this point because I felt they think we took the bag. Though I said nothing and tried to be polite but it must have shown on my sultry face :) I also complained to my husband and after some 10-15 minutes, they said "it's okay you don't have to pay" and acted like they did us a favor. Was I happy? NO! if we did not have to go to airport, I'd stay until they open the safe & find the bag to say this to their face: We did not take it and you did not do us any favour at all! I'm not one of those mental cases who paid for 2 weeks of stay in 5 stars hotels for 9 people then steal a cheap laundry bag (oops sorry it's "linen")
End of rant.. worst 5-star stay ever.. it's so different compared to Sheraton where we were treated with 100% trust and zero silent disrespect. We had a 3-hour powercut at Movenpick and the food sucked big time but overall experience was still better compared to Amiana. That's how bad I felt.. Thanks for reading my rant. Hope it does not bring any negative energy to you. Again, if you are a foreigner, probably you won't...
Read moreThis is a fantastic resort in Nha Trang!!! We stayed 5 nights and it was the perfect amount of time. Itâs considered a luxury resort that sits outside of downtown away from the hustle and bustle of the city center with amazing views. Amiana was the perfect reprieve we were looking for after a week in Saigon. The best things about Amiana are: the breakfast buffet, the spa massages, the staff and the views.
The breakfast buffet is one of the most diverse and international buffets Iâve ever experienced. Thereâs a WIDE variety of food offered: authentic Vietnamese dishes, European & Continental dishes, even Korean and Sushi alongside fresh tropical fruits and juices galore. Breakfast is truly my favorite meal of the day at Amiana and I got to enjoy a lot of different things every day. Iâve stayed and eaten at a lot of hotels all over the world so I can tell a lot of thoughtful intention was put into the development of the breakfast buffet.
We also got massages twice at the spa because we loved them so much. Compared to other 5 star hotels in HCMC and Nha Trang, the prices offered here are extremely competitive if not better since you typically get 70-80 mins (vs. 60). I highly recommend TiĂȘn as she took care of me for both massages and was superb.
Amiana is located north of âDowntownâ Nha Trang and is 20 min by car. Its location offers you a stunning sweeping view of the bay to the city. You really canât escape the beautiful water views anywhere you go. I also appreciated that it was on a quieter end of the resort strip.
Lastly the staff is impeccable. They are trained to be kind, attentive, friendly and try to serve your every need. We felt very taken care of during our stay and cannot recommend this resort enough.
For all the people complaining about this resortâs location, service or pricing - I would suggest you take a look at your own behavior and choices before giving this place a low rating. During my stay, I noticed a lot of bad behavior from foreign tourists, specifically from other SE Asian countries. Theyâre the same ones who left bad reviews. They were loud, obnoxious, had no sense of personal space, spoke terrible English and had even worse manners. Same goes for their children. The staff at Amiana are not responsible for your inability to communicate, especially if theyâre trying their best to help you. Theyâre also not responsible for your decision to stay here â you have a smart phone. You can look at a map or do basic research. If you donât like how far this place is from Nha Trang center, then stay at a different hotel closer to the center. If you donât like one dish on the menu, maybe try a different dish instead of trashing the entire resort. Also, you chose to stay at a 5star resort so if you think the menu is too expensive, then go stay somewhere less expensive? Iâm hoping other people who read reviews will use logic vs rely on inaccurate or unfair reviews left by what looks like a bunch of uncivilized idiots (no doubt the same ones I encountered during my stay).
All in all, this is one of the best resorts Iâve stayed at and if we ever come back to Nha Trang we will certainly...
