We had the pleasure of staying for 3 nights at the Emeralda in Tam Coc. Our family of 5 stayed in two rooms and both were well appointed. The premium deluxe room was especially luxurious, well air conditioned, a great size and with a large bathroom. If you can, stay in these rooms, although the standard rooms are also great quality.
Food and drink choices are good in the resort and there are a good few nooks and crannies with breathtaking views to enjoy a cocktail while watching the rowing boats slip by in the early evening.
There is a serene, relaxed vibe in the resort and time seems to pass by at a gentle, slow pace.
Aside from all that, what sets the resort apart is its staff. Friendly, helpful and receptive staff were on hand from the moment we got in touch with the hotel until the moment we left. Of particular note are Nga and Dang Van Sau.
I had an unfortunate incident at the top of Mua Cave (right at the top of the Lying Dragon viewpoint) where I passed out. 500 steps up and at a precarious perch was probably the worst place for this to happen. My family were with me and were in shock at what was happening - I was totally out of it and it was not clear if I was having a heart attack or stroke of something else. Incredibly, at that time, Mr Tomz from Emeralda’s sister hotel in Ninh Binh was there, leading a tour with a family. He took control of the situation was absolutely brilliant. He ensured I was comfortable and got me moved to a safer position. He then got in touch with the Emeralda Tam Coc and in what seemed like no time, Dang Van Sau was at my side and Nga was waiting at the bottom. I passed out at 9.30 and they were with me, (500 steps and all) at 10.00. Dang ensured I was comfortable and that I was moved safely down the mountain. They ensured my family were ok. They took me to hospital, spoke to the medical staff and ensured I received great treatment - I had blood tests, CT scan, ECG, blood pressure and rested while on a drip. Incredibly, Nga stayed with me until I was discharged at 15.30 that afternoon, thankfully with no issues. Dang took my family back to the resort and ensured they were comfortable after such a shock. Never have I experienced care and service like this. There should be a special category for this kind of exceptional support.
In summary, this is a special place that I strongly recommend. While my circumstances were extraordinary, you should take comfort in knowing that staff like Nga and Dang will do their utmost to make your stay in Tam Coc as comfortable as possible and nothing is too much trouble.
We also arranged airport transfers to and from Hanoi and this was very efficient and comfortable in the hotel’s own 16 seat luxury minibus.

Read moreI wasn’t actually staying at Emeralda Resort Tam Coc—I was just there to catch a mini bus to Hanoi. When I booked my transport, the resort came up as one of the official pickup points (along with a few others), so that’s what brought me there in the first place.||But as soon as I arrived, it felt like more than just a place to wait. The reception area was spacious and open-plan, with high ceilings, ceiling fans, and no windows—just an airy, breezy layout that blended beautifully with the surrounding nature. It had such a relaxed, calming vibe, and made waiting feel more like chilling at a luxury retreat 😌.||Looking out from reception, the pool area caught my eye straight away—it had such a good energy. People were lounging around, chatting, enjoying the water… it just looked like everyone was having a great time. The whole atmosphere felt serene, yet social—like the perfect place to unwind.||Even though I wasn’t a guest, the hospitality was incredible. One of the team members, Trang, welcomed me so warmly and really took the time to make me feel at ease. When my original mini bus didn’t show up (even after a long wait), she stepped in immediately. She got in touch with the bus company, helped me rebook a new ride, and managed to get it all sorted in less than an hour ⏱️. I genuinely don’t know what I would’ve done without her.||While Trang handled everything, I also want to mention that the rest of the team were really kind too—friendly faces, warm energy, and no sense of being out of place, even as a non-guest. They even let me use the resort’s facilities while I waited, which made the whole situation feel so much more comfortable and cared for.||From what I experienced, this resort is not only visually stunning, but it has a real heart and soul behind it ❤️. Next time I’m in Ninh Binh, I’ll absolutely be booking a proper stay to enjoy everything it has to offer.||Massive thanks again to Trang—you turned what could’ve been a frustrating travel hiccup into a moment of genuine comfort...
