Having travelled extensively through SE Asia over recent years, and spent the last 2 and a half weeks travelling in Vietnam, I have quite a bit of knowledge of hotels/guest houses/homestays and the standard to expect.||Having read the reviews about The Garden House - Phu Quoc, we though it would be a good place to relax for the last few days after travelling around.||I will be fair with the review.||Positives.||1. Free pick up from the airport.|2. Grounds are well kept and peaceful.|3. Room was clean and bed was comfortable, although not as new as depicted in the photos.|4. Pool was good to have a swim in and cool down.|5. Was allowed to borrow a scooter for the 5 minute ride to the supermarket.||Negatives.|1. The restaurant. Due to fact that the hotel is quite some distance from the nearest place to eat, we ate the first night here. It was the most expensive by far and worse meal by far I’ve had in Vietnam. Ordered stir fried rice with crab meat, but there was hardly any crab meat. Morning glory with garlic, to be told there was no morning glory left (we are around 7pm), so told they could do vegetables and garlic . The vegetables came but not with any garlic. My girlfriend ordered vegetable curry, but this came with no rice. The waitress then came five mins later with the rice saying she had forgot. ||2. The breakfast, or should I say lack of it. It is described as a buffet breakfast. On both occasions we went for breakfast around 8am. On the first occasion there were napkins and food left on the floor and chairs scattered around tables. In respect of the food there was hardly anything on offer, plates or hot plates where food should have been were empty and not refilled. I asked for some bread for toast and was brought two squashed up pieces of bread. The work surfaces were also in need of a clean and wipe down. I really wish I had a camera to take some photos. This situation was more or less repeated on day two. ||2. The staff. Apart from a young girl on reception on our first morning here there was total disinterest with the staff to assist you. We even had one burst into our room at 9am without even knocking. I don’t know the reason for this.||3. The mosquitoes. Of a minor nature as they are all over SE Asia, but after around 5.30pm, they seem to be out in force here and you have to go inside to avoid being bitten loads.||As a result we left after 2 nights to move on to...
Read moreOur family stayed there 3 nights for our holiday in Phu Quoc. The resort offered us round trip aiport shuttle bus for free for our booking which was great. The rooms we were are absolutely beautiful with full of amenities. It was cleaned everyday as well. Breakfast is included with Buffet syle, it was acxeptable with various types of food changing daily. There is a nice swimming pool which was a bonus and my kid liked it very much. Like it's name, the resort offers a nice garden with many local vege and flowers that brings a lot of fresh air for guests. ||||What i do no like about my stay was the restaurant services. Our dinner was expensive for what we were served. Our meal was pretty good but not my kid's- it was so bland. One night, i asked whether they offered Vietnamese tea or not. They said yes but when i asked if i could have one cup of tea, the female kitchen staff smiled and said it was her mistake, the tea they served for breakfast wasn't available. She had better make clear for me that it wasn't free as i didn't mind paying my tea but she just simply never offered me any price or service. May be because i am Vietnamese so she thought i only like to have free dinks :))||||The receptionists were generally helpful and nice to my family. They helped me arrange the private car for our city tour and booked a day tour for my family. Just a minor problem that made the service not perfect was about our check out time. We had a transfer to the airport at 12.30 Pm and they offered me one room for late check out as my kids and my elder people needed to escape from the heat. About 10.30Am the reception called me and asked whether we could check out one room ( my auntie's one). I politely said that i could check out my room and kept my auntie one as she was old and injured from the beginning of the trip. The reception then told me that if i did not check out one room, i wouldn't be offered a late check out as our discussion before which i found not professional at all. We then ended up checking out all the rooms before and in time.||||All above, a great resort and enthusitic taff that i still highly recommend for everyone who like to stay away from busy city. The staff may need more to be trained but...
Read moreI say this with a heavy heart but we were utterly disappointed here. They contacted us to say they could not collect us from our current stay but said they would pay for the taxi (a good point for them) shame they didn’t let us know about the closures! The girls in reception were so kind and happy could not fault them, the room had all the windows open being aired.... massive problem there as we had an infestation of mosquitos in the room for our 3 night stay, their light/oils did not work and we had 2 plug ins but we spent the whole time swatting them. They need nets over the beds here, hubby had so many bites! Lots of ants in the kitchen but at the end of the day its the jungle so expected. The breakfast is catered for Chinese holiday makers so not impressed, this was the only time the restaurant was open!!! This was another bad point as we were not informed that the bar and restaurant were staying closed due to low numbers at the resort (if we had been informed we would have changed our booking) we had to get taxis to go out to eat costing us more (I have limited mobility so could not walk too far) ||There was a hotel about 7 mins walk away we were told about by another couple that was empty but serving food and drink (although a few people coming in by word of mouth they were open). Cannot remember the name but left at the end of the road, up on the right, ramp down to the restaurant. Fab food there. So why our resort could not do the same I do not know. ||Pool was okay but only 7 beds so if it was busy there would be a problem, the grounds were nice but noisy as they were doing works in the resort (not told about this either). So as you can read these issues are why it has such a low status from us. We did contact the hotel to try and let them resolve the issues before my reviews on here and booking.com, 10% off next stay I think now as I would not be going there again so no...
