DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE
Short version: -Host was distant and uncommunicative. -First night disturbed by noisy guests outside after midnight. -Host questioned our daytime plans despite our belongings being in the room. -Returned to several large cockroaches and dirt (hair, dust, plastic) in a locked room that was clean when we left. -Felt unwelcome and unsafe—left early, did not use fully paid stay. -Not recommended if you expect cleanliness and a welcoming atmosphere.
Long version: We arrived at this accommodation from Czech republic after seeing all the good reviews both here on google and Booking.
Despite the host coming across as quite distant and unfriendly from the very beginning. We assumed it was a language barrier and didn’t dwell on it. Our first night was disturbed by a group drinking loudly outside past midnight, making it tough to sleep, but thankfully earplugs helped a bit.
The real problem occurred the next day. At around 11AM, as we were heading out for a day trip (carrying only a small backpack and leaving all our main luggage in the room), the host used a translator app to question why we were leaving so early. This was confusing, as we had paid for another night and all our belongings, large backpacks, etc.were still in the room. I explained we were just going on an outing and would be back in the evening. Oddly, the host walked straight toward our room as we left, which felt intrusive.
When we returned at around 8:30PM and unlocked our room (we had locked it ourselves, only we or the owner could access it), we were shocked to find a large cockroach tangled in hairs and dust on the floor by our backpacks, another smaller one close by, and yet another huge cockroach under the bed next to more hair, dust balls, and a piece of plastic. None of this mess was there when we left.
We cannot think of a way these things could have appeared in a locked room unless someone with a key entered while we were gone or it was extraordinarily bad luck with pests and extremely poor hygiene. Regardless, this situation felt unsettling and unwelcoming enough that we packed up and left immediately, although we had paid for another night.
I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Either the cleanliness and pest problem is out of control, or something much more concerning happened during our absence. We were quiet, respectful guests, but it was clear that we were not...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. I recommend it to everyone, the owner of the hotel is very positive, she lifts your spirits with her kindness and smile. She is ready to help with everything. The rooms are clean, towels are changed when you think it is necessary. There is a mini kitchen with an electric kettle, a refrigerator, a sink and a washbasin. There is a shared kitchen, where the owners also cook, but we did not disturb each other. There are all the necessary utensils and a gas stove. And it is convenient to eat in the courtyard on the street at the tables. The atmosphere in the courtyard of the hotel is nice, cozy, everything is backlit. The room is spacious enough. Free shampoo, shower gel, toothbrush with paste, razor. Many thanks to the owner for placing us in a 2-room number instead of 1 room that was ordered. You can use the washing machine for free, there is a place to dry things in the air and under a canopy. The owner helped to rent a bike from her friend (120,000 per day), + told where to buy seafood cheaper, 500 meters from the hotel at the base, there are no friends there either. I recommend this hotel to everyone, we felt comfortable here! There are no insects in the room, it is...
Read moreWe loved our stay here. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, offering us fresh fruit every day and making sure we had everything we needed. We were able to put on a wash for free (which she even hung up for us when we were out for the day). The location is about as good as any and within walking distance of plenty of eateries, just don't expect to be impressed by the beaches anywhere in Mui Ne! The hosts do have very limited English, but we just used Google translate so it wasn't a problem. They also helped us book a bus to Ho Chi Minh on the day we left (think the company was called Nam Hai). This ended up being the best sleeper bus of our entire trip (safe driving, nice service etc). We can absolutely recommend Gem's House & would definitely stay here again if...
