Captain Cooks Fish & Chips — Local services in Cairns North

I have been supporting this diner for years, but after this recent experience I will never return. Extremely rude when we called to place order and upon receiving our food we realised our order was incorrect. Instead of apologising they snatched the food from our hands and proceeded to berate us with other staff until I confronted them and ask just to refund our money and we will fo elsewhere. The lady refused to refund me and said I must wait, which they then proceeded to wipe the sauces off the Burgers without replacing the burger patty (i ordered Burgers with no sauce) and slammed the Burgers on the counter. I asked if I could get a bag for the large order and they made me pay an extra 15cents on eftpos even after their mistake and no apology. I confronted them and said i would not be returning and they are extremely rude. Their response was to laugh and say im rude also. It's extremely disappointing as it was one of our favourite places to get quick takeaway, but management must of changed as the service was disgusting but also the food was below standards and was not enjoyable. First of all I just want to say we have eaten many, many times from this shop and NEVER had a bad meal. Until tonight. My hubby has been away for 5 days and we decided to get takeaway from here. To celebrate his return. He ordered 2 potato scallops and 2 dimsims and a small chips. I order 3 prawn cutlets and 2 sea scallops. Everything except the chips was very dark and overcooked. The sea scallops were extremely tough and inedible. The prawns not much better but were no longer the delicious garlicky flavour they'd had in the past. Despite the colour of the batter hubby said the potato wasn't cooked properly. The chips were their usual yummy crispy standard. What has happened! I have always promoted this shop as the best fish and chip shop in Cairns and believe me, I've tried most of them. Why didn't I take them back? Because we are at the northern beaches and it was bucketing down so I really didn't want to drive back there. I truly hope this was a one off and next time will be back to its usual high standard. Holy hell-just ordered a great late dinner leaving me satisfied and satiated. Fresh, delicious and definitely not left hungry. Ordered a crumbed fish burger & a serve of chips (was the small size I think which could easily serve 2 people) rang up & ordered and was ready in 10mins. I usually expect $20+ for a fish burger & chips but was pleasantly surprised when the total was $15! Huge burger & chips- great value! Crumbed fish was 20/10 yum, 2 decent sized pieces (or maybe 1 big size cut in half),cooked wonderfully & succulent with really nice crunchy crumb.
