BLAND. Food large portions but not tasty, lack of seasoning, salad had no dressing, mashed potatoes tasted like powder potato which if they are thats a HUGE no no. Very catering style food i would expect from an rsl or cafeteria not a pub, portions are huge yes! but I'd rather better quality and taste over a plate that I was unable to eat. Hair found on top of second plate of food as our plates were taken by another patron then returned to us, staff should have a better system when handing out food. Guinness not poured correctly. After placing under table lamp, I noticed a lot of dust sitting in drink.
I enjoy eating out as a treat, but to get food that I could have made myself at home after several locals recommendations, I'm left very, very disappointed. To not get dressing on salad or salt on chips is a complete first for me.
Something a chef said to me years ago is that a pub is only as good as its parmi. That parmi may be large but it's bland and flavourless and I was able to finish the whole parmi and still be hungry afterwards sauce was acidic and needs again salt pepper and sugar as well as fats and herbs.
The location, decor and atmosphere of venue was great. Absolutely no interaction with any staff except for ordering food and drink which is a bit confusing as well. We seated ourselves after waiting at the front door wait to be seated sign for...
Read moreMany reviewers comment on the size of the portions and they're not wrong. I went for lunch with 2 friends and all of our dishes featured large portions. The menu at lunch time is mainly pub food; a wider variety of the steaks are served at dinner time. The lunch menu has one steak dish (sirloin) and there was a daily special with T-bone steak when I was there.
I ordered a veal schnitzel which I enjoyed. It came with a garden salad that I didn't want so they gave me extra chips instead. Can't complain with that.
One friend ordered the crocodile & kangaroo dish -- it was a lot of food. My other friend ordered the T-bone steak which he thought was just OK but it looked good (to me).
There are both outside & inside areas. The outside area smelt of stale smoke, not attractive to me, but that disappeared as soon as you step into the inside area which is decorated with stuffed animals (including a lion) and ornamental fish. Kitschy and I guess well-themed for FNQ.
The staff were pleasant and engaging in the ordering / food pickup / servicing area so that was good, too.
Drinks seem reasonably priced. Their happy hour prices were very good but I wasn't able to sample them based on the time...
Read moreWe had a reservation for 7 PM and ordered one Veal Parmigiana and one Chicken Parmigiana with chips and veggies. When our buzzer went off, we went to the counter, only to be told that another customer had mistakenly taken our meals. We were then asked if we could just take that customer’s food instead… which was a very unprofessional way to handle the situation.
A staff member from the bar—a young Asian woman—laughed while apologizing but didn’t offer to fix the issue. Eventually, a female staff member from the kitchen came out to ask us what happened, and finally agreed to remake our meals. However, I was asked to just stand there and wait. After 10 minutes, I asked if I could get a new buzzer and come back later, and she finally gave me one.
When we picked up our meal, it came with chips and salad, not veggies as we originally ordered. We were clearly told when ordering that chips with veggies was possible.
In total, we waited 50 minutes, and still didn’t receive the correct meals. It was our first time visiting this restaurant, and unfortunately it will be our last. We won’t be recommending it to...
