Tim Hei Hong Kong Cuisine — Restaurant in Queensland

This was a blatant rip off! I ordered the sweet and sour pork. 2 cubes of pineapple small and 2 same sized pieces of capsicum.. the rest of the plate was all onion except for the multitude of pseudo chicken. After a few pieces that tasted similar to chicken I started OPENING THE BATTER on each future piece!!! There was NO chicken. Every piece was just Batter. I left them ALL OPENED when I left but even when the last collected the plate nothing was said. As we were tourists just got that night I didn’t bother to make a scene and I paid and left. We also ordered a special fried rice that was very nice.. some prawns and pork BUT for $16 for a SAUCER ( not a plate) it was a rip off price. My friend ordered chicken and cashews and asked that instead of onion and capsicum .. which she medically cannot eat that she have some broccoli or another vegetable. Ordered takeaway over the phone for dinner. Couldn't find any sort of menu online so we just thought of which Chinese food dishes we wanted and asked the lady on the phone for them. She was honestly fantastic at obliging. We ended up ordering: salt and pepper squid, sweet and sour pork, honey chicken, special fried rice, prawn dumplings (honestly thought she said pork but they were delicious anyway), Mongolian beef, roast pork belly, and some spicy chicken green beans. The food was AMAZING. Incredible, even. Portions were generous, flavour was out of this world, comparable with food from China (one of our dinner guests has lived there and testified to that). We did think it was slightly expensive ($160) but then we realised there was a 15% surcharge for a public holiday. After a few days in Palm Cove we feel like a proper Chinese dinner so decided to give Tim Hei a try after reading all these good reviews. What a mistake!

We had the Crispy Roast Pork Entree, Roast Duck, Salt & Pepper Squids and Special Fried Rice. All four dishes has a kind of weird taste which I can’t figure out but just a little odd and unpleasant!

The Roast Pork although crispy but tasted like a refried old pork not freshly roasted on the day.

The fried rice tasted like it was cooked with old/reused oil.

The Salt & Pepper Squid was coated with some odd yellow spice mix that we didn’t like.

The Roast Duck was drenched in an odd tasting sauce and a little tough/undercooked. We can’t eat more than two pieces!
