There are 2 distinct features for this market on Saturday and Sunday. Canning Vale markets on a Saturday provides you with meat and fish. Sunday is vegetable and stall owner’s day (More like a flea market in UK). It’s a glorious place for a bargain hunter. People with big families this is a go to place.
If you go late, you will always get a deal. You need to look for bargains. The cross section of immigrant diaspora will be present. It’s a melee of people milling around boxes of vegetables scattered around the floor, carefully navigating through the countless “buttocks” of men and women who are rummaging through the boxes for the best shaped vegetable.
You will hardly see a handful of “white” people. Indians, Taiwanese, Chinese, Sri Lanka, Bhutanese, Nepalese, Africans …you name it. Every part of the world in represented in the markets. A culture shock marked my first visit.
I bumped in to every other immigrant who has moved to Perth. They offered their own tips on how to deal with the sellers!! The prices will show a marked decline as the market progresses. I noticed Saturday vegetable market sells ’seconds’ vegetables from the big vegetable retailers along with seasonal produce. The fish also cost less towards the end of the market closure. Heaps...

Read moreOnce or twice a month i will go to saturday fish & meat market (west coast co). Lately need to always check receipt esp on fish side since cashiers will simply charge any price. Bought 2 packets of salmon (2kg/pack) today, 1 pack $20 however can't find anywhere in the receipt description charged for that. I assume the last non-weighted item the cashier charged as 1 item with a price of $45, which means he overcharged me by $5. I usually choose to pay at lady cashier and check the price when they enter it, but still sometimes overlook at it when it's too busy. Their guys cashier always simply charge any price they think reasonable even that were wrong. I believe they always did this cause i encountered this few times (wrong price) but since ppl don't really want to argue due to busy flow, they will continue doing this. But 5 stars for west coast meat side, their workers there not only friendly but they fast and efficient. And they are always generous with...
