Christmas update: More tricks for profit.
Paid $10 for chunk of watermelon, only to see the whole watermelons, which I was looking for instore, to be placed outside of the store. Not something people might notice rushing on the way in, but I could have got three times the value simply by buying a whole watermelon. I understand space is at a premium, but separating out products like this seems very much like another manipulation, and I have seen more than just this at this place.
And again I ask, where are the organics???
I will support progressive stores, but it's always business as usual here with no real innovation. Will only shop here for the basic minimals until management gets with the program.
The shine has worn off for me.
I no longer eat meat with nitrates so I cannot comment on the cold meat section anymore.
I have tried some of the take home and hot foods but found them almost universally quite bland to my tastes.
Great cheese fridge though.
Very good selection of fresh fruit and veg but no discernible organic produce.
I must say I think this shop uses tricks on their fruit and veg pricing. I don't care If it costs me three bucks to get three zucchini for example. I want to know the price per kilogram!
For some fresh produce they do not show the price per kilogram, which makes me wonder... so I did a bit of math and some of the prices are inflated compared to what others are selling for in the area that do provide their price per kilogram.
I hope management take notice that customers are canny, and can see through these profit-grabbing tactics.
Also, most prices for packaged goods are rather high with significantly better value to be found elsewhere.
If I'm spending this much I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this shop and come here weekly for food but todayās experience was super disappointing. I bought some milk chocolate raspberries as a treat for myself only to get out to the car and find that they werenāt actual raspberries and instead were raspberry lollies covered in chocolate. Super gross. I took it back in to ask for a refund as the product wasnāt what it was advertised as, two of the shop clerks gave me side eyes and were smiling at eachother before calling a manager who pretty much said itās too bad and that none of the chocolate products are real fruit which makes me question are the almond covered chocolates not real almonds? Itās literally false advertising. She said she couldnāt give me a refund because I had opened it and I told her this was really disappointing and that the product information needs to be clearer that itās a lolly and not a raspberry as it says. Such a waste of $8 and I walked away with no product and...

I've been keeping this place a secret - so I can get what I want there, and it isn't all shopped out, by other people. Ah well - now that I'm cornered, I'll have to tell it as it is. I used to buy my fruit & veggies at the local farmers' market, until the COVID shutdown last year put an end to that. So I decided to try Gilberts. And I'm absolute hooked on the place. They have EVERYTHING I want, in the way of fruit & veggies - all well chosen, and supporting local WA growers wherever possible.
And an interesting range of cheeses - jams - condiments - nuts - pasta. All sorts of things! Small goods, and a range of chicken & meat.
If you are a supporter, a portion of your checkout price is also donated to WA schools.
And the staff...
