For how much they charge for tickets and popcorn you'd think they could keep the place tidy and functional. But no. The men's toilets were abhorrent; two of the stalls were locked closed, neither of the remaining two stalls had toilet paper, and the whole place smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Half of the sinks weren't functioning, and neither of the hand-dryers worked either. I alerted the staff, but a 5 minute wait and it still wasn't amended. When was the last time you saw a line up outside the gentlemen's toilets? That's the real spectacle at Event Cinemas Campbelltown.
It's honestly laughable that while half the cinema entrance way is closed off for the construction of the new 'Screen X' theatres, the most basic amenities couldn't be maintained. Non-functioning bathrooms, stained and foul-smelling carpets... You'd think one of the biggest cinema chains in the state could afford a little upkeep! Lord knows they're not spending money on employing staff... prime weekend showtimes and not a soul to be seen manning the door.
I'll be taking my business down to Dumeresq St Cinemas. Once Upon a Time it used to be the case that Event was the more expensive, more lavish alternative to the local budget cinema. But while Dumeresq St ups it amenities and maintains its devilishly cheap prices, Event wracks up its prices like a major grocery chain in a cost of living crisis, while letting its amenities fall into shameful levels of disrepair.
If you don't see me at Event Cinemas again it's because I'm at the St George outlet near David Jones mortgaging my house to pay for my large combo. And if you still don't see me, its because I had to run back to Mac Square to use the public restroom; my cost of admission is obviously not being used to buy toilet paper. And, even then, if you do see me here, shoot me - the person you knew has long been gone...
And the greatest crime of all? NO...
Read moreI go here ALL the time, sometimes with my partner, kids, friends, or on my own. It is a treat and there is nothing quite like going to the movies.
It is SO refreshing to see it updated. It is cleaner, bigger, and just wow-wow-wow. The cinemas are awesome, with brand new chairs, recliners, private boxes and even beds.
Staff have always been lovely even before the renovation, but they really are wonderful and always worth mentioning.
There isn't heaps of food, mostly chocolates, a lolly mix and chips. Drinks are your standard from any cinema, as well as the popcorn. Sometimes the drink machines break and you get this funny-tasting coke, but staff always fix that for you.
The boutique cinema is the cutest thing in the world and the seats are so fun and relaxing. You can't really cuddle on them, so don't go thinking it's like that (I had thought so), but worth the cost. In the V-Max cinema (which is huge), I would recommend the recliners 100%. SO WORTH THE COST. And please, PLEASE try out the beds and private box just once.
I haven't been to the new Gold Class, but if it is as it was before renovations, it is certainly worth going to. I had a lot of fun with my grandparents when they came.
The cost is a lot, probably more than your average cinema, which is why I am taking half a star off. The other half a star is for food prices and lack of variety of food.
I'd love to see hot dogs, burgers, cinema food other than your basic stuff. I'm so sad they did not include the 4DX experience which they have in Sydney. What an...
Read moreI recently visited Event Cinemas Campbelltown, and unfortunately, the experience was far from enjoyable.
Starting with the food area - it was absolutely revolting. There were mounds of popcorn drenched in Coca-Cola sitting in the spill trays, making for a disgusting and unhygienic sight. The floor was sticky and covered in spilled soft drinks and popcorn, making it unpleasant to walk through. On top of that, the lines were ridiculously long, with staff taking forever to serve customers. The lack of cleanliness and efficiency in this area was unacceptable.
As for the Boutique cinema experience, it was a complete disappointment. The seats were atrocious swivelling uncontrollably, which made it impossible to get comfortable and the flimsy footrests didn’t help at all. By the end of the film my back was in pain. To make matters worse my seat hadn’t been cleaned, it was covered in revolting hair and leftover lollies. This kind of negligence reflects poorly on the management, particularly the cleaning manager who should be ensuring proper standards are met.
It was also clear the cinema was severely understaffed. Scheduling movies just five minutes apart without enough personnel to handle the turnover is a recipe for chaos. If Event Cinemas wants to run a tight schedule, they need to hire more staff to manage it effectively.
Overall, this visit was a massive letdown. Both the food area and Boutique experience need urgent attention to cleanliness, comfort, and staffing. I would not recommend this cinema in its...
