Coaldale Food Market — Local services in Alberta

I used to enjoy shopping at this market and I do not mind paying a bit of a premium for it as I know they generally have quality items and cannot compete on price on everything. The are local and employ local people.

BUT, their prices are just becoming crazy and I find myself shopping there less and less. A loaf of in store made made hamburger/hotdog buns is something like $4.50 now. Many items like ice cream and other frozen can approach 2x what other grocery stores charge. Many produce items are well over 50% (like Bananas). I realize prices are going up, and I do not mind paying more for the convenience (20%?) but I can't help but feel there is a lot of opportunism from the proprietors taking advantage of the situation. If a No Frills or similar comes into Coaldale, they will be absolutely obliterated. A similar shopping cart in a chain store would, no word of a lie, probably be 40% less. Makes it worth spending $5 on gas to go...

You would think that with it being a small town store the employees and the store would be great. But this is so not the case! Prices are threw the roof, the employees dont seem to care about any of the customers, and my biggest pet peve, i walk up to the check out the cashier doesnt say hi or anything, I Specifically say i dont need a bag multiple times and they continue to pull out plastic bags and place your items into them not even filling them compleatly before using another bag.

I refuse to shop here anymore ide rather wait and drive to lethbridge to pick food up, this place doesnt care about any cusomers or the Environment. If there was a 0 star ide...

Grocery store located downtown Coaldale. It has a little bit of everything. Produce, meats, dairy products and more. It is great to have this market just prices are crazy high. Clean and well organized store. It has a parking lot with several spaces. Lack of customer service, cashier wasn't so nice, my son is learning English and he was trying to ask where to leave the empty water jugs. The lady was rude and not patient at all, not even trying, just saying I can't understand I explained to her he is just learning and it's hard for him. She didn't care. I just go only if it is really necessary or if I need something urgently and can't drive to Lethbridge else I...
