A older female security guard with lighter grey braided hair followed me around the mall with my real, medical alert service dog until we sat down (he alerted me so I needed to sit down for a moment), where she could come up to me and ask us all sorts of ridiculous questions. My service dog was clearly vested in a large bright blue custom vest that read “SERVICE DOG” and had my trainer’s program logo on the back. He was perfectly behaved as he should be, yet the lady approached me accusing me of trying to bring a pet indoors.
When I attempted to tell her he is a service dog, she asked if he was certified - which he is not as certification is voluntary and we are still protected under the BC Human Rights Code. She continued to press on about certification and tried to argue with me (I was beginning to cry at this point, I cannot do confrontations) and so I offered to have her speak to my service dog trainer to explain to her why she cannot deny me access, but she refused several times despite not wanting to leave me alone. Seemed like she knew she was in the wrong yet still wanted to harass a crying disabled girl with an actively alerting service animal. Throughout the whole interaction he was a perfect boy and kept alerting to my discomfort yet she wouldn’t leave us alone.
This lady needs a serious re-education on the Human Rights act and service animals as a whole. My trainer was able to come by the mall to help me in hopes of speaking to the lady however she was gone by then. There are plenty of real service dog teams in Courtenay and I hope they never meet this woman as this was a completely unfair and unnecessary interaction. I’ve warned who I can to avoid this mall, even though it was a really great...

Why is it that your security will tell trucks to leave after they have found safe refuge on the edge of your lot parked safely out of the way? When there is really nowhere to park a 75 ft long commercial vehicle bringing cargo to your fine city. Do you realize I was awoken after a long day of navigating my way here from the mainland to figure out where it is I might drive in the dark in an unfamiliar town to get rested up before I deliver my cargo to your fine city in the morning? Are you aware that we are regulated by federal and provincial mandates to abide by hours of service that you may be asking us to violate. I know. You don't care. And your security was only...

They also have knocked them off cinnamon bun place and a Dollarama but there's a better one up the street. There is also a quality foods but it's old.
