Outside of one experience of playing Magic: The Gathering with a friend of mine I was totally oblivious as to where to start my journey with this game. I ultimately decided to go to Great Canadian Games & Hobbies, and it was and has been a great experience! The staff are knowledgeable and passionate, and actually play the games they sell. I was informed of how to actually play MTG, where to start, how to build a deck, and was encouraged to come out to a draft night. They also have a large variety of board games outside of trading card games. Additionally, they have a very large variety of accessories for D&D, and TCGs. Their staff are very friendly, and are very good at building professional relationships with their customers (knowing your name, putting cards aside you may be interested in, etc.). It is also a very clean environment as well.
That is just the retail side, the store also offers a very large playing space with a variety of snack options. This area is host to many different game nights. Some for MTG include: Draft, Standard, Commander, and Gauntlets. They also host One Piece and Flesh and Blood games as well.
Before posting this, I read some of the negative reviews on here. I would advice everyone take things with a grain of salt. Everyone has different experiences towards events they've experienced. A lot of people have complained about the store not accepting trades. I, personally, have seen people try to trade bags of cards 10 minutes before closing, while the store was also very busy. When they were advised to come back another the following day, as well as at a specific time (as they were about to close naturally) the individual got upset. As I had mentioned, this is simply a matter of perspective, that person may have had a negative impression, when in actuality the store did nothing wrong.
Overally, I would definitely recommend anyone new of experienced in TCGs, or even looking for a board game stops by! It is a great place to make your go...
Read moreHonestly , very discouraged with this place. I've been here once before and I had a nice time. I live in a remote community and this shop would be my only one for 6 hours. Well I went in today and the staff member wasn't good.
I was hoping to get an idea on a price of some cards / share and maybe sell some with the store. After asking about selling to the store, I was returned with a blunt and un welcoming "we are not buying cards right now"
I replied with "nothing at all" and the person replied "nope".
I was then going to ask just about how they would value these as it is harder for me to do with my disability l.
I didn't even want to sell that many cards (if I did) and it wasn't the fact I couldnt sell them, I can always sell online. I have just heard good things from people in my community that come to this store, but I wasn't even 30 seconds in there until I was immediately dismissed and felt "unwanted"
Not the experience I was hoping for after a long drive, but it is what it is.
Again this review is not about selling the cards really, its about showing how not welcomed I felt after one question.
Sad, I guess supporting LGS...
Read moreI have been lied to on 3 separate occasions now. I have called this store multiple times over the last few months and 3 times they lied to me saying they didn't have any Lorcana product. The first time, I was nearby so I went in to look at magic products instead and found lorcana on their shelves. The second time, I went in anyways because they had already lied to me once before and they had exactly what I was asking for. The THIRD time, I called and they said they had zero allocations for the new Lorcana set, I went in and they once again had exactly what I was looking for. Why lie? If you don't want people buying multiple boxes or packs then put a limit per customer. Lying to customers time and time again is atrocious. I wanted to go here because I'd rather support LGSs over big box stores but atleast I'm not being constantly lied to by the Walmart or Gamestop employees. I'm so frustrated because the first few visits to this store were great experiences but I'm hesitant to go back...
