Remac — Local services in Ottawa

Remac is easily the best corner store in the city. It is family owned and run, making it a gem in a time where there is a circle k on every block. The staff is extremely kind and I see the same man every time who works very long hours and what seems like everyday. Week after week, as the seasons change, the same man is there with a smile and a friendly conversation as he sorts loonies and quarters for me so that I can use the coin operated laundry machine in my student house. I see those in line before from all walks of life, whether construction workers or police officers, chatting away with him as if old friends catching up. I have NEVER been treated so rudely by any commercial establishment, convenience store or otherwise. Up until today I went there about 3-4 times a week, never had a problem, and always treated the family that owns it with respect. Today I tried paying for a drink with my debit card and the machine couldn't seem to read my chip. I very politely asked the old lady behind the counter if she could send it through again, and she proceeded to snatch the drink off the counter and say "No, you can go... Get out." Before turning back to the show on her laptop and waving me away. When I said I would just pay with cash, she made absolutely no attempt to apologize or display any level of decency or contrition. Absolutely filthy and....their prices..... Everything is easily 3-5$ more expensive than any other convenience store. Gouging students and other folks who are not in a position to have options. Also very dirty and the staff are mean.
