I stayed at the Double Tree on May 17-18, 2025 and would not stay there again. Despite being in a good location of the city, I am very disappointed in their customer service (or lack thereof) and parking situation.
Prior to booking the hotel, I had called twice to inquire about parking and was told there was a parking lot on site for $33/day with unlimited in and out privileges. When we arrived, the front desk gave us a pass for the parking garage. We were told the garage is public but that the Double Tree has a special rate for guests, which we paid. The parking for the Double Tree guests is on P3 but P3 was completely full. We had to park in P4, which were were told was acceptable, though it required us to take a few flights of stairs before we could get to the elevator that gave us direct access to the hotel.
Later that evening, we wanted to take the car out but noticed there were other cars circling the lot waiting for a spot. We realized that moving the car meant we may lose our spot, even though we paid $33 for overnight parking and in and out privileges. Before moving the car, we spoke to the front desk who advised that if we took the car out and came back later, only to realize that there were no spots available, they could not do anything about it. This was surprising to us - why would guests pay $33 for parking that was not guaranteed? Why was the hotel not monitoring when the lot was full in order to stop issuing parking passes? We were told that if we came back and the lot was full, we'd have to go around downtown Ottawa and look for alternate parking. The front desk also told us not to move the car if we were so worried. This response is unacceptable and there should be a better system in place that does not inconvenience guests who have already paid to stay at the hotel and for parking on top of that.
The room itself was fine, though the elevators were incredibly slow and took forever to come. We also asked for someone to bring up a trolley for our luggage when we wanted to check out the next day and after 20 minutes, no one came. This required us to take several trips down. I would not stay here again.
**I see the hotel has responded. To clarify, the reservation was under Gila Gabay. I am aware that the parking lot is a public lot but those circling and looking for parking were hotel guests who were sold $33 parking passes. At no point did the hotel stop issuing the parking passes. In theory, a refund on the parking pass would be nice but it requires guests to look around downtown Ottawa for alternate parking because they decided to move their cars (despite having unlimited in and out privileges). It seems like a very inefficient and...
Read moreWhat a pleasant experience this hotel was after being stranded in ottawa when our connecting flight was cancelled. We arrived at the hotel and were promptly greeted and welcome by a great front desk crew. We were checked in quickly and pleasantly by our host in which i should have gotten her name but I didn’t. The best thing about checking in was the warn cookie that was presented to us ! Lol. Seriously a warm cookie ! As simple a thing as a cookie is This was the greatest thing after a long evening. And it was delicious ! ||Our rooms were great. Modern, very clean (which is most important of all) smaller rooms but still very roomy. King bed and a couch along with a desk. Also is a closet with blankets pillows iron & board. Beside the closet is a mini fridge and a safe which you usually don’t see in a |Room. ||The bathroom is tight but has a very nice walk in shower and the sink area has some shelf space. ||Overall great experience. | |We asked where to go to eat and the host at the desk took out the front door to physically show us the directions to go. Very nice touch. ||A couple of things on a side note i think are very worthy of mentioning and are little things to help the environment (plus some cost savings i would guess ) are the garbage cans. No plastic bags in them. That save alot of plastic from going to the dump and you also normally get a little pad of paper and a pen in your room but here its a little pad of paper and a tiny pencil ! Great thinking. No more plastic pens and ink going in the|garbage. ||Overall great job. ||Would i stay here Again ? … Absolutely… I will remember it now as the hotel with...
Read moreHello all. I am a frequent hotel guest with many facilties and I wanted to share my experience with Novotel in order to warn others! I booked my 1 night stay through a third party booking service. I had prepaid for my stay through Trip.com. I woke up the following morning to find that my CC had a hold for the full cost of the room, in addition to my security deposit. The staff insisted this would be resolved upon check out. It was not and I was forced to cancel my birthday dinner reservations that evening, and find alternate transportation from the hotel. Aside from the payment issue I would also like to add that the bedsheets had hairs in them and were clearly not changed, the bedside tables were so small my items were falling off not exagerrating. There was no bag in the garbage and the overall layout of the room was poor with very limited storage for clothing. Additionally, the WIFI was extremely cumbersome to set up with any streaming devices. Oh and the hot tub is NOT FUNCTIONAL. It apparently has been off since covid and is now broken. The hotel manager was not in the least helpful when I expressed my dismay with these events. They attempted to shift blame to the third party app after a staff member had already admitted this was due to an "in house mistake." I was offered a 15% discount on another stay for my troubles which is frankly insulting. I would also like to add that I am now going on the 4th day from my stay (3 business days) and the charges are still pending. I've been left with no spending money and I can't buy groceries, gas or anything.I really wanted to like Novotel but I would not recommend...
