We were so excited about our journey with Dana’s Goldsmithing—until the very last step left a sour taste.

When we picked up our ring, we expected to receive the appraisal as promised, reflecting the full value, including engraving. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen because they forgot to have the appraisal done at the time of purchase. Nearly a year later, when they finally provided it, they had switched to a “cheaper” engraver, and the appraisal reflected those lower rates instead of the original engraver’s pricing. As a result, our ring was valued lower than what we actually paid at pickup.

When we questioned this, they redid the appraisal, but it only went up by a few hundred dollars—not to the full value we expected. After several rounds of communication, no further adjustments were made.

Having recently gone through an insurance claim for stolen jewelry, I know firsthand how depreciation and policy deductions impact payouts. With the current appraisal, if something were to happen to the wedding ring, we would be significantly out of pocket to replace it—something that could have been avoided if the correct valuation had been done when it should have been.

We loved every step of this journey, but this final misstep has dampened the experience. A proper appraisal isn’t just a formality—it ensures customers can protect what they’ve invested in. Unfortunately, we walked away feeling like we lost $2,000 in value the moment we stepped out the door. That’s not the kind of experience anyone should have with a trusted jeweler.

To add to the response: Dana's trying to explain to us that their appraiser will not give an ACCURATE appraisal is simply not true. Just yesterday I picked up three appraisals from a very well known and respected jeweler in Toronto that has been in business longer than DG and the value was made appropriate for a replacement value, not "over inflated" as DG claims. These are just excuses for the jeweler not doing the job to it's completeness in early 2024 and causing a customer a loss in 2025. It isn't about a guarantee that is covered for five (5) years, it is providing a full service and an industry standard appraisal. Also, not answering emails about consideration for a a service that should have been conducted before the pick up of the ring to ensure the appropriate costs were captured (the higher cost of the engraver). And yes, this was explained to DG before they made the reply on this post. Just not professional. If required I can post the screen shots...

There aren't enough stars in the Google-verse for me to give to Dana's Goldsmithing! I’ve followed Dana’s work on Facebook for a number of years, and always knew I wanted to have her design a ring in honour of my 25th wedding anniversary this year.  I started compiling “ring-spiration” photos on my phone, and by the time I reached out to Dana for a consultation, I knew exactly what I wanted – a new large centre stone, subtle hidden Mickey Mouse heads and a Cinderella carriage as a nod to my Disney obsession, a small blue sapphire in honour of my son’s September birthday, and the incorporation of several sentimental stones – the diamond from my Mom’s wedding ring, the earrings my husband gave me on our first Christmas together (when I was 16), and diamonds from my engagement ring, wedding ring, and five year anniversary ring.  My husband declared that I would be Dana’s most difficult client because I knew exactly what I wanted; my design was complicated; I'm extremely picky; and, I have extremely high expectations for everything. However, I knew that Dana was the only person I could trust to execute this ring to perfection and I was right.

Words can’t even describe how I felt when Dana presented me with my beautiful ring.  I was speechless, and my eyes filled with happy tears.  To see my vision come to life so perfectly, and how all the sentimental pieces from my husband and my Mom fit together in one perfect jewellery “scrapbook”… I still don’t have the words to explain how amazing the whole experience was or how much my ring means to me.  To have a ring that is so beautiful and so unique to me, is priceless.  I can’t thank Dana and her team enough for making this dream come true.  I will treasure my...

Could not be happier with my purchase from Dana and her team! I spent a few months of researching online and fell into the “online” trap of spending hours and hours searching for stones and rings that come and go and are the bottom of the barrel for quality in their GIA rankings. Very frustrating!

I heard great things about Dana and decided to reach out even though I’m about 2 hours away from Port Perry, and am I ever glad I did. I was quickly comforted with a great response and welcoming experience that took all the worry away. Within 20 minutes on a video call I learned the real in’s and outs and finally felt confident in my decisions and the very competitive pricing made this choice a no brainer.

I could not be more thankful to the whole team at Dana’s because we managed to work with my budget and I got more than I ever hoped for. My fiancé never stops showing off her custom ring, even when there no one is there to see it lol. She is blown away by the incredible beauty, quality and how stunning it is being so dainty, it is perfect.
