First and foremost, this incident occurred 2 days ago and only now I’m posting a review after speaking with the manager (Allen) and the owner (?). This is not an anonymous review, they have my name, email address and phone number and were informed I would post a review of the incident. Over the past several years we have dined in and take out on multiple occasions, the food was always good and well priced. However, this past Sunday our experience was very different and disturbing. It was later in the evening; we were the only dine-in customers, but several take out orders were picked up during our stay. We only saw 3 female waitresses and 1 sushi chef in the restaurant. We placed our order with waitress # 1. The various dishes ordered were delivered to our table over the course of our meal; when the last item arrived (delivered by waitress # 2) it was not the “Sashimi Deluxe” platter we had ordered but instead it was the “Sushi Delight”, we informed her immediately and she returned it back to the sushi chef. Immediately he started yelling at the waitresses in his native language, but clearly and in English said the name of the platter and dropped a loud “F” word. We then saw him throw a piece of fish on the counter in a fit of anger. We immediately called the waitress and told to cancel the platter order and to bring the bill as we were done with our dinner. When she brought the bill I asked for the chef’s name, she nervously looked back into the direction of the sushi bar and shook her head indicating she could not give his name. On my way out I approached the chef and told him he should not address the female waitresses as he did, especially when there are customers present, he proceeded to saying that it was because she made a mistake. The following day I contacted the restaurant to speak to a manager and/or owner, Allen the manager called me, I asked him if he was aware of an incident that occurred the night before. He said that he was not aware of anything that he was in the back kitchen that evening and was very tired that day and did not hear anything (which is impossible as the chef was extremely loud). Upon relating the events of the previous night to Allen, he proceeded to defend the chef and blaming the waitress because of the order mistake, the conversation with the owner was very similar. Both apologized but always coming back to the fact the chef was upset because of the mistake made by the waitress, but not acknowledging the actual problem is the chef who yelled, disrespected, and harassed the waitresses in the presence of customers. We will not be returning to Bamboo Kitchen and Bar and hope management and ownership educate their chef to be respectful of staff and customers. Mistakes do happen, it is not an excuse for this...
Read moreHave eaten here many times. Unfortunately, after tonight we won't be returning. Why? We were seated at a table which was disgustingly sticky. Our hands stuck to the sides of the table. We were switched tables and promptly forgotten. We had to flag a waitress down to place our order. When ordering I asked if the yellow curry was spicy as I can't tolerate any spice and was advised it was not. Unfortunately, it was 5 alarm spicy when it arrived I had to let them know I couldn't it. While the chef came out and offered to make a new one, I was told that I need to tell them when ordering. I advised the chef I had done this. While the remade curry was less spicy, it was still spicy. I ate a bit and then left the rest. 4 of the 6 of us are celiac and cannot eat gluten and were careful to confirm our orders would be made gluten free. We were then brought out salad with dressing and unfortunately we could not eat this and had to send it back. The non-celiacs did not receive their salad or soup. They forgot to make my daughter's order. Everyone's food arrived and my young daughter was sad and hungry as hers just never arrived until we followed-up twice on where it was. My young daughter loves sushi but doesn't like sashimi and they have always substituted the sashimi in the salmon lovers for more maki for her and asked for this. When the order came, it hadn't been substituted. As I couldn't eat the curry, I just ate it so it wasn't wasted. One order of maki never arrived and we ended up just removing it from the bill. We were never provided with chop sticks or gluten free soy sauce. We were short one set of cutlery. We ended up just getting up and getting it ourselves. Half the drink orders arrived, the other half never came. We had to follow-up twice. They were nice enough to provide containers for the left over food... except the lids were the wrong size. We had asked at the time or ordering to have the bill split into two, and were careful to place orders together that would be on each bill. The bill was not split and the waitress had to redo it.
Not a big deal but at this point the entire dinner was such a calamity you couldn't help but laugh at how badly everything went. Once at home, my husband was ill and suspects he was glutened. Unfortunately, we won't be returning and will instead try the other sushi restaurant in town and the new...
Read moreJan 25th: wasabi wasn’t good today, tasted like the stuff you get from metro! Small inconsistencies now that I can consider this restaurant one I order from regularly.
Friday Dec 6th: Salmon wasn’t fresh today! I was chewing through everything- nothing was buttery like normal, the miso was a little salty- had to water down :( , the rolls weren’t closed properly (which is becoming consistent thing lately). Not impressed with the food today! & My tonsils are also creating so much phlegm and that’s a sign something was off …maybe the salmon for it was end of day
Came back for dine-in, just as yummy!
Bamboo is great! 5/5 Ordered the salmon lover. A little pricey to me! But I guess prices have raised depending on area as well. (A salmon lovers is 100% under $30 in Scarborough)
The wasabi was spicy, the soya wasn’t salty, the salmon was buttery! I enjoyed everything .. a lot !!
Based on preference: the salmon was cut WAY too big, quite a mouthful- I had to cut them down, the rolls were also too big for me!-cut those in half as well. Not a fan of rolls that aren’t completely closed/ when the seaweed just touches (see photos)! I also don’t like my salad coming dressed, and the dressing had no taste- I think they were going for a light miso mayo maybe, I usually love salads that come with my sushi, not this one.. sorry, salad was also bitter.
Will be back for more. Thank...
