I went to this location as I have always enjoyed the fish and the staff. Tonight was the complete opposite! I arrived with my family at 6:15pm to have a meal. We were aware of the closing time at 7 and we were going to eat quickly and leave (note that except for four tables where there were customers, all the others had chairs up on them so that no customers could sit). Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly younger waitress who was kind and had no issue with us eating in. On our way to sit down the older waitress made the younger waitress feel uncomfortable and made it know that she was mad that she wanted to serve us(muttering under her breath to her that she should have not allowed us to stay); meanwhile there were 2 other tables! We ordered within a minute of sitting down. My mother wanted a coffee and the older waitress said loud enough for us to hear “we’re not making coffee, and if she wants coffee she can go somewhere else”. I could not believe the lack of customer service and rudeness this waitress had! Since this waitress clearly did not want anymore customers for the night she made our waitress come ask us to pay as “they were closing down their register” and we hadn’t even received our food yet! Unbelievable! They even had take out orders waiting to be picked up even when we were leaving! We left at 6:50pm and was just appalled at the customer service of this one particular waitress. She was very rude, mean, and clearly a bully; especially towards the younger newer waitress. You could tell our waitress was so cautious to not even make a mistake because she knew the older waitress would speak to her in an unprofessional manner and make her work hours miserable. I feel so sorry for anyone working with this waitress and hope this attitude of hers gets addressed. We will not be back and I can clearly see that there are more than a few bad reviews because of this particular employee. The waitress we had was great and continuously apologized for the behaviour of her college, maybe she should take some pointers from our waitress on how to treat other and the customers that come to support a...

UPDATED Saturday, March 1st at 4:45 p.m.

We decided to have lunch, Sat at the table and tossed some vinegar on our fries and the vinegar had floating stuff inside. Which is absolutely ridiculous, first time I've ever seen that in my life.

And the cook decided it was a good idea to laugh about it. Laughing right back at you buddy.

This restaurant has been a part of my family since I was seven years old.

My father worked at this location alongside George and his son. I have fond memories of watching my dad cook, along with George and the rest of the kitchen staff. Captain George’s was also my first job—I started by washing dishes in the back. At that age, I just loved being in the kitchen with my dad, so he gave me a little job to help out.

As kids, whenever we were hungry, we’d open the back door of the kitchen and ask my dad for a small order of fries. Those were special times.

Over the years, I’ve seen many new faces come and go. I’ve also witnessed major changes, especially to the restaurant’s interior design. Unfortunately, it feels like Captain George’s has lost its touch and its history. The atmosphere no longer reminds me of a place where you'd sit down and enjoy fish and chips. The old charm is gone—it doesn’t feel fish-and-chip-friendly anymore.

I miss the original design, with privacy screens, fish pictures, nets, lighthouses, and that classic light blue color that made you feel like you were by the sea. It truly captured the essence of a fish and chips restaurant. Now, the open-concept layout lacks warmth and privacy. It just doesn’t feel the same.

On my last visit, I realized Captain George’s isn’t Captain George’s anymore. I didn’t even feel comfortable dining in—the new layout took away the cozy, familiar feeling. Privacy matters, and the open-concept design was an unnecessary change.

To add to that, there was only one cook working on a Sunday afternoon. He was backed up with orders, and service was slow, but despite the challenges, the food still turned out great.

This is my honest opinion, and it’s a sad one. Captain George’s just isn’t what...

Review for Captain George’s

My friend and I recently visited Captain George’s and had a mostly great experience—at first. We were greeted and served by a lovely, attentive waitress who seemed to know the ropes and brought a great energy to our table. The first half of our visit was smooth and enjoyable thanks to her.

However, things took a turn when a different waitress began handling our table. She brought out our food with a noticeably negative attitude—mumbling under her breath, placing my plate down rather aggressively, and generally giving off a very unpleasant vibe. Even simple tasks like changing a ketchup bottle came with sighs, slamming, and grumbling. Her demeanor stood out sharply from the otherwise friendly and professional staff.

It’s unfortunate, because the restaurant itself has a welcoming atmosphere, the kitchen staff seemed cheerful, and the owners appeared engaged and pleasant. But this one staff member really disrupted the experience. Based on similar comments I’ve read in other reviews, it seems this isn’t an isolated issue. I genuinely hope management addresses it, as it could be costing them repeat customers.

I wish the staff member well, but hospitality might not be the right fit for her unless some major changes are made. On a positive note, the younger waitress was a true highlight—she’s someone worth...
