Rejoice! For the portal to Narnia has been found. Rather, the Stony Plain equivalent to nerdom. And not so much a portal as it is a stairway leading to this hidden treasure. It would be easy to miss "Stony Plain Games & Collectables" (which I will abbreviate to 'SPGC' from now on) at a quick glance, and if you are specifically searching for it then you may be hard-pressed to find it without the use of Thorin's Map (ahem Google Maps). Do not let this dissuade you though for once you find the door on the side of the building that leads you into a whole new world you'll be immediately greeted with feelings of nostalgia and joy. "SPGC" has only been open for a short time (when taking into account the current state of the world's pandemic) having first providing customers with excellent service in late November of 2019. Lance and his family have done a superb job establishing a foothold in what I personally hope will be a thriving business for years yet to come. I've been to many comic & gaming shops across not only Canada but the USA as well over many years and it's always nice to visit the locally owned and operated ones such as "SPGC". The store is well stocked if you're into card games such as "Magic: The Gathering" and such, it has several "Dungeons & Dragons" books & expansions, a selection of retro-style video games, a good assortment of board games, swathes of troops for Games Workshop products, and an assortment of other goodies. I initially was searching for a few specific items for the "Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar" lineup that Lance did not have in stock at the time but he was more then happy to bring them in for me. They arrived in a timely manner and I was given notice as soon as I was able to pick them up from the store. All-in-all a very pleasant first experience at "SPGC" for me. I'm a firm believer of supporting local and if you're in need of either starting a new hobby or expanding on a previous / current one then don't hesitate to visit this gem among the ever expanding town of Stony Plain. You will not be disappointed with the service. To re-iterate on my aforementioned point about the physical location, just plug the address into any GPS system and head on over. There is ample street & alley parking around (despite quite a bit of local construction). You'll want to go to the East side of the building, pretty much adjacent to "The Naked Pooch" pet grooming shop next door. Keep up the great...
Read moreA friendly gaming store that stocks almost every niche from DnD supplies to puzzles to Warhammer to TCGs old and new is exactly what Stony Plain needed.
I've been going here since last summer and have always been treated like a friend by Lance and Christina. It's been only the two of them managing things since they opened just before all the lockdowns and mandates, and they've done their best to build up their business in spite of COVID. Congrats!
Prices here are very fair and never inflated even if something is very popular (looking at you, Metazoo and Flesh and Blood) and if you are looking for something specific you can ask either Lance or Christina and they can do their best to bring it in.
I've also noticed a bombardment of one star reviews left by spam accounts, some even having a few sentences describing the owners as rude or creepy; please visit this store in-person and see for yourself that these owners truly care about their customer base and their business. I look forward to my future visits and wish all the best for Lance, Christina and their business in 2022.
(I'll also leave some pictures of things I've recently bought. Prices are fair but be careful that you don't spontaneously start...
Read moreI called in a panic looking for an item for Christmas that is very hard to find, and I'm not firmilar with. One of the owners answered the phone and told me they had what I needed! I explained my situation , and that I couldn't make it until closing that day. She told me she can hold the item until tomorrow! I was so relieved to hear that, and showed up a few hours later. She was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and I liked being able to go into the store and not feeling pressured to buy, it felt like talking to a friend not even a purchase Lol. It was overall a very pleasant experience and I felt like the owner definitely took a lot of stress off my shoulders by holding what I needed, as I've learned many stores will NOT hold a more popular item for you and they did no problem at all. The item is in amazing brand new condition and was clearly well kept and taken care of, and reasonably priced. I will be back in the near future for purchases !! Thank you so so much for all your...
