This market might be old and shabby but was very important to the history of Tai Po. This market was historically known as ‘Tai Wo Market’ or ‘Tai Po New Town’ in contrary to the ‘Tai Po Market’ which situated on the Northern side of Lam Tsuen River. Tai Wo Market was developed in 1892 by the Tai Po Seven Alliance led by the Man clan of Tai Hang Village and aimed to break the monopoly of the Old Tai Po market formed by the Tang clans.
