Libération market — Local services in Nice

It is an outdoor market located in the new city of Nice on Avenue Malaussena, but also on Place du Général de Gaulle, Rue Clément Roassal, Rue Veillon and Boulevard Joseph Garnier, in other words around the former Gare du Sud, which gathers mainly locals.The market is open every day except Monday 07.00-13.00. This market hosts countless stalls, through which a wide range of products is available to the buying public, including fruits and vegetables, cheeses, cold meats, olives, meat products, as well as fresh fish and seafood. The former Gare du Sud Train Station building, in the Liberation district, remained derelict from 1991 when it ceased operation, until 2013, when it was renovated and turned into a Library, while also hosting...

I was there for the market which turned out somewhat disappointing. Cours Saleya is the other market in Nice which is well known to both locals and tourists alike. Cours Saleya is large but quite touristy which is why I chose the market where the locals shop.

The choice of produce was not as interesting and fresh as the market in Cannes where I usually shop. The fish monger however, had an excellent selection of fish and seafood where I ended up buying beautiful fresh branzino.

Good selection including fish and fruit and veg from local, small-scale farmers and producers. It's a short walk to the north of Nice Ville station. If you're travelling and don't want to tote heavy bags around the market, you can leave them at Hotel Berne for a small charge. For meat, bread and an excellent traîteur, try the Boulevard Joseph Garnier to the side of the market. There are also a couple of small organic supermarkets...
