The Instant — Restaurant in Nice

On recommendation from a colleague, we had dinner at L'Instant on a Friday evening (Sep 22nd). We had a reservation and were able to get a nice table outside. The food was very good: well prepared and nicely presented, and the portions just right. We each enjoyed appetizer, main dish and dessert. Honest prices as well. The only reason why I am giving three stars for the atmosphere is not even directly the fault of the people working at the restaurant: when we arrived, there were 4 kids (age approx 4 to 6) running, screaming, and playing loudly between the restaurant entrance and the outdoor seating. Shortly after, we realized they were the children of two women sitting at one of the restaurant's table. Unfortunately, they didn't make any serious attempt at holding the kids back. The only comment directed to the restaurant is that I was expecting them to intervene, given that several other guests had voiced their annoyance with...

We was told the owner changed about a month or 2 ago so some of the dishes are no longer available, but that shouldn’t stop you from visiting this place as this was probably one of the best spots we dined in during our trip.

We started off with escargot and frogs legs. Not a lot of meat on frogs legs, of course, but the tenderness of the meat and the flavour was well worth it. Then, we had the steak and scallop risotto. Steak was okay, cooked exactly how i like but it’s a thin cut. The real star was the scallop risotto, consistency and taste were amazing, highly recommend this dish (love that some restaurants give you your own parmesan shaker)

The service was great, and the restaurant is well-located away from the tourist crowds, but the food is not impressive. We ordered the "menu gourmand" (starter, main, dessert for 32 euros). My partner had the escargots and a chicken burger, which were fine, while I had the gravlax, which lacked flavor, and the steak tartare, which was very watery and almost tasteless. Although they did bring sauces to the table so I could add what I wanted, the dish was already too liquid, and it didn’t seem or taste fresh. Thankfully, the desserts (pavlova and crème brûlées) were tasty. However, I would not recommend this restaurant, as there are many better options for the same...
