SRI VENKATESHWARA SWEETMEAT STALL.
I visited a sweet chain which has 100 years of history near Balepet, Bangalore. The owners of the enterprise are very kind and explained the history of Sri Venkateshwara sweetmeat stall. Venkateshwara sweetmeat stall was started by the owner's great grandfather. According to the localites they have maintained the same taste throughout and that is because of the same old recipe and materials they use. Their speciality is their Mysore pak and the ghee used in it is customized according to their needs from the manufacturer. I was lucky enough to watch the making of their tasty Mysore pak.
The bright golden Mysore pak was served on a banana leaf, like a golden brick on a plate. I was told not to bite the Mysore pak, but just place it in my mouth and press it against your tongue as you can feel it melted away. The rich flavor of the ghee and cardamom was perfectly blended with a perfect sandy texture of the flour. The Mysore Pak was just addicting.
I also tried dumroot, a dish made with a huge wax gourd . These wax gourd weigh around 15 kg each. They are grated, boiled, sweetened and then baked in the oven for several hours. The first look at the dish was amazing, it had a brown outer layer, yellow inside layer and was garnished with cashews and raisins. My first bite was a festival of textures. The crunchy brown part of the dish just complimented the soft parts of the dumroot, giving it a texture of halwa. It was just perfect and not to forget the delightful flavour of their ghee Overall It was a wonderful experience.
