A must-visit for authentic Indian sweets and snacks in Sowcarpet, Chennai As a sweet lover from Malaysia, my visit to Agarwal Bhavan on Govindappa Naicken Street, Sowcarpet, Chennai, was an experience worth sharing. This place, situated in the heart of a busy commercial hub, truly stands out for its delicious sweets, savory snacks, and unbeatable authenticity. The Kesar Lassi was the highlight of my visit—rich, creamy, and perfectly chilled. It’s hands down one of the best lassis I’ve tasted in Sowcarpet, and while the price might be a little high, it’s absolutely worth it for the quality. I also tried their Basundi, which was equally delightful—thick, creamy, and indulgent. The Dhokla was soft, spongy, and paired beautifully with their signature green chutney. The Cashew Pakoda was crispy and full of flavor, providing the perfect crunch to complement the softer snacks. Their Katchori, served with a mix of chutneys, was flavorful, and the hot Samosas were truly a treat—crisp on the outside, with a delicious filling inside. The samosas here have a unique classical taste that sets them apart, offering a superior flavor compared to most places. After these savory delights, I rounded off the snack session with a cold Lassi and Badam Milk. While the lassi was perfectly chilled, the badam milk could have been colder, but both were still a great end to the meal. The seating area is modest, with space for around 15-20 people, but the service is incredibly fast and efficient, ensuring you don’t have to wait long despite the crowds. It’s no surprise that this place is so popular—the food and service are both top-notch. The sweets here are nothing short of amazing. I couldn’t resist buying a selection to take home with me to Malaysia, including Halwa, Kaju Katli, Kaju Roll, Palkova, and Mysore Pak. Every bite was as fresh and tasty as I remembered from my in-store experience, and my family, friends, and relatives absolutely loved them! I even stopped here just a few hours before my flight back to Malaysia to make sure I could bring home these mouth-watering sweets! 😂 Though the prices are a bit on the higher side compared to other sweet shops, the quality is unparalleled, and it’s clear that Agarwal Bhavan has maintained this standard for years. The ambiance is simple yet classic, and the staff is always friendly and attentive, adding to the overall great experience. In short, if you’re ever in Parry’s or Sowcarpet, Agarwal Bhavan is a must-visit. Whether it’s for their mouth-watering lassi, delicious samosas, or a variety of sweets to take home, you won’t be disappointed. The quality, taste, and fast service make it a gem in the middle of the busy streets of George Town. Highly recommended! ✅

"BEWARE OF FRAUD AT AGARWAL SWEETS!" I am absolutely appalled by the experience I had today at Agarwal Sweets. As a loyal customer who frequently travels from Trichy to Chennai, I've always made it a point to visit for their delicious dhokla. However, my latest visit with my family has left me utterly disgusted and feeling cheated. After enjoying our dhokla, I proceeded to pay the bill of ₹871. I handed ₹1000 in cash to the cashier, Mr. Mani. To my shock and disbelief, he denied receiving the cash and repeatedly accused me of not paying. When I requested to check the security cameras to verify my payment, Mr. Mani immediately became evasive, claiming that only the owner had access and I would have to wait. I waited, expecting a quick resolution. Instead, Mr. Mani spent a considerable amount of time on the phone, speaking to multiple people. Eventually, he declared that the camera footage was "not available" and that he would WhatsApp me later. Throughout this entire ordeal, he continued to falsely accuse me of not paying, even after I had clearly handed him the money. This is not just a case of poor customer service; it's outright deception and theft. Agarwal Sweets, or at least your cashier Mr. Mani, are big cheaters who took my money and then had the audacity to tarnish my name with false accusations. I urge everyone to exercise extreme caution when dealing with cash payments here. I will also be sharing the bill as evidence of this disgraceful incident.

[June 2023] This tiny and crowded sweet shop in Chennai serves some of the best samosas I've ever had. The sweets I tried were all delicious and had an authentic taste. Although the samosas were small in size, they were amazing, especially when paired with the chutneys. The prices are a bit high, but the taste is totally worth it. If you're looking for authentic North Indian sweets and snacks, I highly recommend this place. Just keep in mind that the ambiance and seating are not great. The shop is so small that they have stools for dine-in to save space. You can find this shop on a cramped street in Sowcarpet, about 400 meters away from Broadway Bus Terminal. There's no dedicated parking available, so you'll have to rely on luck to find a spot in front of the shop amidst the busy traffic. Alternatively, you might have to park a bit further away, which can be challenging since it's a busy market.

I recently dined at a charming small restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. The cozy ambiance immediately set the mood for a relaxed evening. The menu offered a variety of options, and I decided to try their signature dish, which did not disappoint. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was impeccable.

The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. The dessert menu featured delectable choices, and I couldn't resist indulging in a delightful treat to end the meal.

One minor drawback was the limited seating, so making a reservation is advisable. Overall, this small restaurant offered an intimate, memorable dining experience with great food and service. It's a hidden gem that's worth visiting for a cozy date night or a special occasion. I'll definitely be returning to savor more of their...
