WASTE OF MONEY, SO SAD!! 100s of boats, only small pods of terrified dolphins. The “dolphin tour” at sunrise is less about the dolphins and more about making the locals money. Pollution, environmental degradation, and eventual death for these beautiful creatures. We saw 2 dolphins, 1000s of tourists and boats.
I deeply regret the decision of going on the sunrise tour to “watch” the dolphins. It’s devestating, I would pay to NOT have the boat go out to torment the dolphins. Over 100 out-rigging boats, chase the dolphins, running over them so their tourists can get the best view. The pods of dolphins split up and do circles in distress attempting to outrun the boats. It’s environmental impact is devestating, the ripe smell of gas and 2-stroke oil hangs heavy in the air and ripples off the water. It’s terribly sad, competing with other boats to get a glimpse of a dolphin only worsened the blow of us participating. The boats race to where a dolphin appears running over them and hitting them with their outriggers.
We had our driver turn around and bring us to shore an hour before we were...
Read moreThis is something you'd definitely want to know as you'll travel this North of bali just to see dolphins and experience lovina beach. Beaches in Bali are really beautiful. You can choose any beach to relax. But when it comes to dolphin watching, lovina is not the best place. If you're lucky and if dolphins are in the mood to come out for a morning swim, you'll definitely see them. Probably the pictures available in the internet are the best because the photographer got really lucky and the timing was great. When I went it was the time of sunrise. We went really far to see the dolphin. But when the dolphins appeared, first of all they were really small and probably different kind of dolphin than we expect. Second of all, as soon as the dolphins appeared, boat riders ride their boat directly on their path as a result dolphins disappeared and the we has to wait agai to see some. And they were not visible right in front. So I just too the experience of seeing dolphin form far and...
Read morei went for the dolphin watch early (7.30am), but not with this company...
you get into this narrow wooden indonesian outrigger canoe aka jukung, that can seat about 4pax and the boatman take you about 2km offshore where the dolphins dives around. there were around 2 schools of dolphins, maybe 3 that swam around that area...mostly underwater until they ran out of air and surfaced for a minute or 2 only to dissapear underwater again.
re: the dolphin watch, you need lots of patience and sometimes luck to get really close to them. the closest my jukung (canoe) got to these gorgeous mammals was within 3metres from them after a 45mins of 'chase'. after 8.45am, we went back to shore for breakfast as the sun was fully up and it was crazy...
