ARG Shopping Mall — Local services in Tehran

As a non-Iranian who went there in the summer of 2017 as well having seen shopping malls in different parts of the world I think I can give a more contextual account of the Arg Mall. It's design looks promising on the outside, but the architecture doesn't quite work when getting around the building. It is more cramped inside than most modern shopping centres and the food court is disappointing since there is not much of quality - trust me - to choose from except for a bunch of not very good fast food outlets. Didn't get to go into or see the roof garden or terrace; not sure it was open when we went. Come to think of it, although we visited on a weekday evening when Tajrish Square outside was it's usual heaving mayhem, inside the Arg Mall was calm and quite dead. Many of the retail units located on the upper floors are either small, repetitive, derivative or unlet - due to a lack of business interest one can only assume. The larger units sell Western brands which are much more expensive - EVEN WHEN ON SALE - than the equivalent products in London etc so we didn't end up buying anything. I guess if you can't fly out of the country to shop properly then avoiding cheap Chinese etc copies by buying expensive originals in places like the Arg Mall is one's best bet or only alternative. On the plus side, we did find a decent coffee shop with good quality beverages and food on I think it was the first floor (although expensive by local standards the service was excellent and they even had a range of reading - including English language - materials available) and the toilets were pretty decent - not something that is a strong point in most current Iranian public facilities it should be noted. So, overall, I would say the Arg Mall is overhyped - most of the negative comments of the Iranian reviewers posting to this site are fairly accurate, although many of them have still been too generous with their star ratings. No doubt if you have nothing else to do the place might offer something of interest, but one needs to be either lucky, have brilliant company to distract you or else incredibly low expectations. I would sooner recommend visiting a much bigger and better Mall which is a genuine Iranian innovation known as the Tehran Grand Bazaar located further South in the centre of the city which predates the Arg by...

Arg shopping center is a one-stop shopping center. what is this mean? It means that there are multitude of shops or services that is offered to customers, all under one roof. Movie theater, food court, kids arcade, bank, coffee shops, and even a pharmacy. Elevators available for handicapped. Movie theater has three auditorium with a concession stand. The kids arcade is huge and very expensive, so prepare to pay an arm and a leg. The food court has fast food and Persian food. Unfortunately the food, is not what Arg famous for. My suggestion to the managing company is to try the food before they rent out the space. But the coffee shops are all good and have great locations in the center.
