The legend says that St Declan was a careless traveler, and when he forgot his favorite bell on a trip to Wales, the bell leapt onto this rock and followed him across the Irish sea back to Ardmore. It is certainly not the type of stone found locally, but was more likely ballast from a wrecked ship.
