Arrived in An Sugan for our evening meal (dinner) today, Sunday 4/8/19. Most tables had a reserve notice on them but one didn't so we sat down. A waiter brought over the menus and two of us ordered a drink. We were about to order our expensive meal when a lady in her late 30s early 40s came over to us and told us "that table was reserved for 8o'clock and we should be finished our meal by then" It was now 6.25. It wasn't what she said but how she said it. It made us very uncomfortable and wouldn't enjoy our meal if we had eaten as we would be watching the clock. We could have been finished our meal but as we are on holidays didn't want to rush. We do enough of that in our normal lives. We decided to leave and found a much nicer place where we will give our 5 stars. Since we came back to our B&B we have read a lot of mixed reviews but for our review we say 1) book a table if you are going to eat there, 2) have money in your credit card and 3) have a hard skin to deal with the staff. Definitely will NOT recommend. If you have a table free customers should be allowed sit and enjoy the meal. If reserve is on table no one will use it. One of the staff certainly doesn't know Clonakilty town very well as we asked directions to a certain street and her reply was "I don't know my colleague might". She needs to be given a map of the town to study and learn where eateries, hotels and certain shops are and that includes street names. Very...
Read moreWhat a disappointment. Have been at least once a year for past 10 years... as we loved the food especially the desserts and Irish coffee after. Went for lunch in pub last week and it was awful. The friendly man was not there and we got the waitress who obviously couldn't care less about customers and has forgotten to smile and be helpful and friendly. My elderly irish friend...who likes vegetables with meat could find nothing like that on menu....plus prices were extortionate....so ended up with fish/chips/peas. She asked for half a portion and a child's portion arrived of a few chips and a small piece of fish plonked in middle of huge plate. When I asked why no peas was told it was only a small ramikin of some pea mash but was not offered to my friend when I said that she liked vegetables. The waitress just looked at me as if to say so what. I couldn't enjoy my meal because my friend was so mad and the atmosphere in pub was so dead. We did not stay for our sweet and coffee and when we paid I asked if the place had changed hands and was just told no. I said the menu must be different and again was just told no. No smiles or friendliness. We took ourselves off to the cafe just up the road and was greeted with quite different atmosphere. The girls were so welcoming...smiley/friendly/helpful. We both enjoyed a lovely sweet of apple cake cream and ice cream and 2 coffees . All for only €13. An Sugan will not be visited or...
Read moreWe recently visited An Súgán for a family dinner, anticipating an excellent experience given our delightful lunch there just days earlier. Unfortunately, the dinner service fell well below expectations, leaving us disappointed.
Our meal started poorly when my father’s steak arrived cold. We observed it sitting on a nearby table for over five minutes before being served. After returning it, we waited over 20 minutes for what appeared to be the same steak, merely reheated.
My own dish, the beef cheeks, was passable, but the mashed potatoes were over-boiled and soggy, and the red wine sauce was disappointingly thin and watery. My mother and brother ordered the crab tagliatelle, expecting a dish comparable to what we had enjoyed at lunch. However, what was served for dinner was vastly different, with the sauce reduced to a basic cream and lacking the sophistication we’d previously experienced.
Service was chaotic, with a clear understaffing issue. Basic requests such as providing a missing fork and spoon were ignored until the end of the meal.
In contrast to our fantastic lunch experience, this dinner was disorganised, inconsistent, and far from the standard we expected. It’s disappointing to see such a disparity in quality between services. Dinner was unfortunately a 4/10 at best—a shame given what we know An Súgán is capable...
