My husband and I went to Europe on our honeymoon last month and decided to do 2 Secret Food Tours (One in Venice and one in France). I just cannot applaud these tour guides enough. Clementina was absolutely amazing and very informative, with both history and food! We started off the tour by grabbing espresso at Caffe del Doge. She gave a description of the different types of espresso and coffee they offer. It was great and we even got a package of espresso to bring home. Next, we headed to the Jewish Quarter to get some cookies at one of her favorite bakeries. They were delicious and bakery smelled fabulous. Then we headed to a bar where we tried the “Select” spritz rather than the typical Aperol Spritz. It was very interesting, and we had never had it before. We also tried our first Cicchetti there, which is Venice’s version of the tapas. We walked around and she suggested some restaurants and grocery stores to check out. Next we headed to try out the “best meatball” at this restaurant. We paired it with some red wine and surprisingly is was fried. It was very good! Then she brought us to one of her local restaurants to try out their risotto. It was probably the best risotto I had in Venice. We paired that with some sparkling wine. Next we headed to a rosticceria, which mean “fry shop”. Everything inside was fried and of course delicious. We tried these fried sandwiches, and they were yummy. We headed over to wine shop where we tried some very good wine on her suggestion. She is an expert when it comes to wine and can tell you a lot about it. Lastly, we headed to a pastry shop to try our something sweet and got a digestive liquor drink to finish it all off. I would definitely suggest people to do this tour and will do it again when I go back....
Read moreIf you’re looking to dive deep into the authentic culinary soul of Venice, this food tour is the ultimate experience. It’s more than just a tasting adventure—it’s a vibrant journey through the city’s history, culture, and delicious street foods that you simply can’t miss.
From the start, the guide was engaging and incredibly knowledgeable about Venice’s history and its culinary traditions. We wandered through charming narrow streets, bustling markets, and hidden squares, getting a real feel for the city’s vibrant atmosphere. The tour stops were well-chosen, each offering unique specialties that captured Venice’s authentic flavors.
The highlights were undoubtedly the cicchetti bars—Venetian-style tapas served with a glass of local wine. Each bite-sized creation was packed with fresh ingredients and bold flavors, from creamy codfish and marinated anchovies to meatballs and crostini topped with seasonal vegetables. We even got to try Venetian classics like sarde in saor (sweet and sour sardines), which was a pleasant surprise.
The guide also introduced us to some of the best gelato in Venice, perfectly creamy and bursting with flavors like pistachio and tiramisu. Another memorable stop was at a small bakery where we indulged in fritole, a traditional Venetian donut.
Overall, this tour was an ideal mix of local street food, casual dining spots, and traditional dishes. It was perfectly paced, offering just the right amount of walking to digest the delightful variety of flavors. This is a must-do for any food lover visiting Venice—highly...
Read moreMarina was our tour guide and she was wonderful and very personable. She accommodated us when we thought we would be more than five minutes late for the tour due to the train delay from Florence to Venice. She gave us a wealth of knowledge about the various areas in Venice along the way on our food tour. We tried various foods including Baccalà mantecato, polpette, Gelato, Aperol spritz. We also tried squid ink risotto, which was al dente. We didn’t particularly care for the risotto because we like our pasta and rice cooked well done. However, it was an interesting dish since we never tried squid ink, pasta, or risotto before. Marina and the rest of the tour participants made me feel very special since it was my actual birthday and they even sung happy birthday to me at the end of the tour. I would highly recommend Marina as a tour guide and she was very sweet, nice and professional. She also fully accommodated my father who does not drink any alcohol and provided him with alternative drink options instead of wine, including cedrata. we tried white and red wine, which were very complementary to the different dishes we tried. I did feel very satisfied and full at the end of the food tour and fill. It was a great value for the money spent. I would recommend secret food tours in Venice and various other parts of Italy to sample...
