A place of sincere reverence to those of the Buddhist faith. For those that seek to complete the Buddhist Shikoku pilgrimage, but do not have the ability to visit all 88 temples, here one can attend to the blessings of each in a single location. As you move from the entrance to the cave, there are hundreds of disciple statues. Take the time to look and enjoy them, each is an individual and are different than those around them. I spent as much time with the disciples as the rest of everything at the temple.

For those of other faiths, such as myself, I ask that you give this place the reverence that you would your...

This place is a sight to see. Located away from the main streets, you will have to walk up a large set of stairs to arrive at the Henjo Cave, where you will see dozens of sculptures wearing wool-knit hats. It's all very cute! The cave area itself is very clean, and well maintained. It's free to visit, and was not busy at all when I visited on a weekend morning. You can also get goshuin stamps here for 300 yen (it may have increased in price now, though) It's worth walking the distance to see the spectacular...

This is an amazing place. A cave and a temple with plenty to see around and inside. The lanterns inside the cave are mesmerizing with the prayers and the atmosphere giving you the feeling of so much peace and calmness. There are the 88 Buddhist icons representing the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. Up the stairs you will see the Daishoin Temple.. fantastic and awesome where it stands. Plenty to explore on this one place. Highly...

This place made the biggest impression on me of all temples and places of woreship we have visited. The cave is dark and only illumonated by the lanterns and candles and there are some chants playing in the background which give a special vibe to the place. We took the time to see all in the cave there was to see, even took the time to sit down and reflect on life and everything else. I highly recommend visiting this place!

Bellissimo tempio molto suggestivo il percorso spirituale che si fa all'interno, tra lanterne è atmosfera magica.

I have been there on a rainy day which made the trip even more magical. I dont know why ppl missing this such important and beautiful places on the island. Most of ppl come for the Grand Tori Gate but forgot about this beautiful temple just 10 mins walk. Was about to do the hike to the top of the mountain but was late and raining. Will do this next time. I reckon spending a full day on the island.
