A comment written by a local guide who is a foreigner is unfortunately totally wrong. Thus I write this. First of all, every shuttle bus from Kagoshima city actually STOPS at the International Terminal, but ON YOUR REQUEST. Thus, when there is an announce(available in Japanese, English, Chinese, and in Korean) to find any traveller to use International Terminal, you must request it , by pushing the button on your side, for stopping at the International Terminal. Because not every bus carries travellers who use the International Airport, without the request the bus would not stop. So it is on your demand! On the other hand, in order to go to Kagoshima city, you have to move to the domestic terminal. Also, when you want to get off at the International Airport, you can load your baggage in the trunc room (luggage room) of the bus for the International Terminal. This would help remind the driver that there is a traveler using the International Terminal. Nevertheless, there are few shops in the International Airport, so if you have plenty of time before your departure, it is better to get off at the domestic terminal. There are so many restaurants and souvenir shops. The two terminals are...
Read moreThe airport was not a large one, but it also served international flights. Most of the shops and restaurants were in the local flight side, which was connected by a covered walkway. A free open foot hot bathing area decorated with a volcano was its signature. Carpark was always full and needed to spare some time to queue up. Entering the carpark was not constantly guided by staff, and drivers had to follow the sequence themselves. Along the main building, stops were allocated to private cars, buses, etc. But drivers also needed to wait because the stops were busy. The quality of the shops and eateries was fine. Some residents were attracted and spent here. The staff in the information counter could speak fluent English. Tourists should approach them for assistance instead of other staff working here because they might not answer your questions correctly. The custom for international flight was on the upper level. The entrance was usually crowded with a long queue as there was only a small buffering space for checking hand carried luggage before stepping into the restricted area. Only one shop was opened inside. Battery charging was provided free of charge. Toilets were clean...
Read moreThis airport is primarily domestic, as the demand for international flights isn’t as high as in Tokyo. That said, it’s my favorite airport for several reasons. It’s calm, quiet, and clean—unlike the always-busy Haneda, you can actually hear yourself think here! The bathrooms were clean, though a bit outdated. There are plenty of gift shops, although many of them sell similar items. The staff were friendly and the check-in process was easy and efficient.
One unique and special feature of this airport is the feet and hand onsen. It’s such a nice touch to relax before or after your flight!
Overall, this is a great airport to fly to—peaceful, comfortable, and with...
