Manyo-so — Local services in Yugawara

We wanted to stay in an onsen, but many were too pricey. This onsen, in the famous onsen town of Yugawara, was priced just right and featured clean beautiful baths and a delectable Japanese breakfast. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. They made a reservation for us at Uotatsu, a local restaurant that served delicious food for a reasonable price. The only negatives were that the room smelled of cigarette smoke, which is difficult to avoid in Japan, and there is no private toilet connected to the room. Each floor has a shared toilet/sink area. We had a Japanese speaker with us, so I cannot say how well the staff can communicate in...

This was an awesome modern ryokan/onsen experience. Staff was super friendly and always tried to help as best as possible. Do bring at least a little Japanese though, English is not common in this town or among staff and that's fine! Rooms were nice and big and you could see the mountains, food was super high quality and diverse. The town offers lots for nature and small town enjoyers. The 2 different big onsen baths and 2 smaller private baths offer a traditional relaxing experience.
