Spring Break 2019, was spent con mi wife and our five ninos and a good friend at The Point Villa. I had not Spring Breaked it in MX for a long time (circa the mid-nineties). Although Mr. Campbell had made the suggestion to me for us to stay at his spot in Las Gaviotas roughly 493 times since i've known him, i never took him up on it until my wife said, "hey, we need to do something this spring break." and i knew how she said it, she wasn't gonna let me down easy, i said, let's rent Marx place in Baja. I thought she was gonna say no, all she said was, "put some new tires on the van." i loaded up the van with our kids and our friend and our surfboards and a lot of food and a lot of water and my freshly printed passport and copies of the kids' birth certs and a lot of optimism. heck, this is spring break 2019, i needed to get the heck out of LA LA Land and our kids needed a dam break from the LAUSD. My wife needed a break from all of it. especially my bit-ching and moaning about my commute, my boss, and sometimes my boss's commute. my last memories of travel to and thru Mexico were from the Arizona border at Ajo and on to Puerto Penasco aka Rocky Point to all of us Arizona lizards who grew up with plenty of beach and no ocean. the road to Rocky Point was a two-laner in need of repair and lots of that road was washboard as you got closer to the Sea of Cortez. The road to Las Gaviotas was pretty goddam nice. in fact it was really goddam nice. i didn't need new tires on the van after all! the youngest kids kept asking, "are we in Mexico?" i knew we were close to Las Gaviotas when we read the big lettering on the wall that said, LAS GAVIOTAS. we pulled in and played it cool, just like Mark told us to. i offered the guard at the gate twenty dollars and he pointed to the piece of paper that listed, WE DO NOT ACCEPT BRIBES as rule number 7. i considered it more of a downpayment for violation of rule 6: NO CHILDREN ALLOWED IN THE HOT TUB but i obliged El Jefe and returned Andrew Jackson to my secret hiding place--my wallet. Marc didn't lie. His rental house is PHAT. our kids barely fought over the sleeping arrangements. basically, the oldest kid got what he wanted, a king sized bed all to himself. the other kids were just happy being in Mexico. i thought, this is the best vacation we ever had as a family and it just got started. And them Marc showed up. we hid the dog (not allowed rule Numero Uno!). just kidding, we left our dog at home because the oldest of our 6 kids pulled rank and stayed there because he was scheduled to "work." His work must have been using all of my charcoal and diluting the Crown Royal with water. that's a very interesting job for a senior in high school. back to Las Gaviotas. Marc showed us his other rental. Very nice. Mark drank a cold one and left. we felt obliged to party on without the man looking over our shoulder. Like father like son. I used the heck out of mark's bbq grill. thanks, mark. Specifically, we surfed our arses off all week and never got sick of it. it was epic. Rights off the chain and some select left handers to boot. i love surfing low tide reefy spots and this was no exception. one day we drove down to San Miguel and surfed there as well. i haven't stopped thinking about those waves in Baja since we returned. i haven't surfed since we returned. Surfing Baja ruined me: no crowds, no south bay angst, no HB angst, just a lot of fun with my sons even though my kid who hogged the king sized bed hogged all the dam waves every day. He should have stayed home with his big brother and "worked." Marc's rental was so dam comfortable and so close to the beach and surf break. we walked everywhere. every night we walked to the beach and collected driftwood and had a fire in Marc's fireplace. It was our best...
Read moreI've stayed at both Endless Summer Villa and Point Break Villa with my wife and as a guys surf trip numerous times. What can I say.... It's my happy place! A typical day in these villas goes something like this... You wake up and poor yourself a hot cup of coffee, Walk 20 yards down to the beach and check the morning surf. Finish up my coffee, pick my favorite board for the conditions, throw on my wet suit and get a solid morning surf session. A little about the surf.... The main break right out front the villas is an AWESOME reef break that has a super fun, consistent right-hand wave. And on most days, you can snag some snappy lefts off the top (north end) of the reef. But the best part of it all... is you have insanely fun consistent waves all day with NO SOCAL CROWDS!!!!! Most week days, my buddies and I will have the whole reef to ourselves for hours. Weekends maybe a handful during peak times. Once I feel like I can't lift my arms to paddle any longer, I wash off under the beach shower and jump in the hot tub to recoup. After that, we like to cook breakfast as a family, but there is also a great French restaurant right across the street that is phenomenal and a mom N' pop authentic Mexican restaurant about half mile south of the complex that is also a solid option. Next, If I'm with the guys, we usually take a nap and have a few beers out on the huge terrace looking out at the ocean that both villas have. But if I'm with my wife, she's usually well rested from sleeping in and wants to go to the beautiful winery's just a 45 minute drive, near Ensanada. The Winery's have beautiful views, great wine and are super affordable!! One of our favorite activities (outside of surfing). Next is Lunch at the best street taco joint in the world, SURF TACO!!!! Surf Taco is about 1.5 miles north of the complex, sits right along the water next to K38. The tacos and tortas will change your life! After a chill afternoon hanging by the pool and beach, we jump back in the ocean for a sunset surf.... These are my favorite. After coming out of the water, we always have wood and cold beers sitting on the beach to warm up next to a bonfire. We finish off the night sitting around the fire telling stories and enjoying each others company. Well, That's a day in the life of staying at Endless Summer/Point Break Villa. Mark and Antoinette are awesome hosts, super helpful and always around if you need anything along the way. I highly recommend these accommodations, you won't be disappointed. I could write for days about the endless things to do near the complex. Shopping for freshly caught seafood on the beach, bar hopping in Rosarito, four wheelin in the dunes, day trip to Ensanada, etc... You gotta check it out...
Read moreWe absolutely loved Los Gaviotas and the Endless Summer Villa was the perfect villa for our family! Mark (the owner) was great at responding to all of our questions and gave us plenty of tips to enjoy our stay.
We were a family of 10 (4 adults and 6 kids) and there was plenty of room for us all. We stayed in July 2024 and If you are looking for a great place to stay with amazing views this is the place for you.
A few things we loved:
How big the villa was. We never felt crowded and the rooms were great too. The living room had very comfy couches that fit us all. The large dinning room table allowed us to have family meals every night. The kitchen is fully stocked with every thing you need to make your meals. They had cable and a bunch of apps that allowed us to watch tv and movies in the evening. There were plenty of beach toys, surf boards and boogie boards for all. Washer and dryer on site. 7.. We took Mark up on his recommendation for catering our first meal when we arrived by a local family. At the time it was $15 per person and the food did not disappoint. We had plenty of left overs so make sure you bring tupperware.
Things to make note of:
As much as we loved the place it was a little bit of a trek to the beach, so make sure you bring a wagon to load all your beach toys. The house gets a little warm in the afternoon, but there are plenty of fans and the ocean breeze helps. The is only one tv in the house that was in the living room. It was great during the day but only wish there was another tv in the master upstair and down stairs.
Again, if you are looking for an amazing place to stay ran by a great host, we highly recommend the endless...
