The concept of nobility flourished in New Spain in a way not seen in other parts of the Americas. Spaniards encountered a society in which the concept of nobility mirrored that of their own. It was fun to explore. Xochimilco is all for walking, if you are not planning to be in a trajinera. I walked for a good two hours around the area, it felt less busy than expected, but it was on a Sunday. There is a church close by, and also a market. The drive from the historic downtown was about 45 minutes. My uber black made me a little nervous with his driving skills to get there, but I did not want to leave without at least getting the vibe. Un mercado con mucha tradición e historia. De hecho, son dos mercados juntos en los que se pueden encontrar desde flores y plantas hasta animales vivos, pasando por una infinita variedad de comida y alimentos preparados, frutas y verduras, así como artículos diversos. Se venden productos cosechados en las chinampas cercanas como lechuga de diversas variedades, espinacas, acelgas, elotes, etc. Todo es muy fresco y conviene visitarlo temprano, antes de las diez de la mañana. Como muestra de los productos que difícilmente se encontrarán en otros mercados, está la venta de patas de borrego ya cocidas y que quedan deliciosas en un caldo o en un guisado típico mexicano de chiles y tomates. Asimismo, encontrarán tostadas de maíz recién elaboradas que son una delicia y señoras en las entradas que venden tortillas hechas a mano, azules o blancas, así como sopes y tlacoyos rellenos de papa y frijol negro recién hechos, ¡calientitos y listos para comer ahí mismo con una de las salsas que te proporcionan! Muy cerca de ahí, encontrarán tiendas para comprar cualquier variedad de chiles secos y moles ya preparados. También encontrarán molinos para moler sus especias y preparar sus propios moles. El único gran problema, que es del que adolecen casi todos los mercados en México es la suciedad y la falta de estacionamiento. La sociedad en general carece de educación y tira basura en cualquier lugar, desde los locatarios hasta los visitantes, por lo que es común ver los alrededores llenos de desechos y de malos olores.
