Read moreBack in the day when this place started, it was a fantastic organic and direct farmer-consumer revolution that I eagerly looked forward to every Saturday. Everything, from the greens to the cooked recipes, was warm and hearty. While it didn't quite match the experience of farmers' markets in cities like San Francisco, Berkeley, Seattle, London, Tokyo, Osaka, Iowa, and others, it still held its charm.
However, my recent visits to this place last month were highly disappointing. It felt as though the organic culture it once promoted had been diluted with something I can't quite put my finger on. On top of that, when I went there with my 2-year-old, we were met with cigarette smoke filling the whole area from the entrance to the main farmers' market yard. It was overwhelming, and even the delightful Biryani made by a wonderful gentleman couldn't be savored due to the overpowering marijuana smell and smoke coming from a corner near the Biryani joint.
What made it more ironic was the presence of a clean air store within the establishment selling masks and air purifiers.
I wish they would address the smoking pollution issue. With Kathmandu already grappling with significant air pollution, adding another layer of pollution to this otherwise organic space is disheartening.
(To fully enjoy the experience, I even stayed in a hotel that was built next to Lesherpa for a couple of days...
