The Flat White Cafe has recently taken up residence at the Surf Club while its old premises are upgraded and extended. Its proving hugely successful and giving the publuc and visitors alike an opportunity to experience the inside and the huge deck of this magnificent and hugely under utilised building. The Club sports a new commercial kitchen, expansive restaurant/cafe and separate bar area and one of the best beach front sites in NZ. The Flat White will be operating from these premises until Oct/Nov and is already being well patronised. Hopefully the Club committee will see the benefits a good commercial operator can bring to the building for the benefit of both Club members and the public who have generously supported them...
Read moreWaihi Beach, like all beach's in NZ is a great place to visit. It is a good surf beach when the waves are up (they were to big on my recent visit for the Surf IRB National comp - it had to be cancelled part way through). At the west end of the beach is some nice walks, with views back down the beach - very similar to the West end of Ohope beach. Go can have a nice long walk along the beach with it's length. I summer it can be hard for a park near the surf club, as it is popular, but well worth it. Off season it can be nice just to have a stretch of the beach...
