I stopped in two days in a row when I visited Tauranga recently.

-Day one: I had seen from some of the reviews that the team do sandwiches here, it took me back to my time living Austria and popping down to the local butcher for a Kaiser Semmel filled with either Fleischkäse or Roast pork. I came away with a a Pork belly Semmel with mustard and a Landjäger for dessert! Both were excellent, the Pork good and fatty and the Landjäger spiced well!

Day two: on the way to the airport I decided to dash in and grab some fresh Zwiebelmettwurst as it's similar to the Ossenworst we used to enjoy in the Netherlands(for all those Dutchies up in arms I did say similar, that leaves a lot of lattitude), I thought I'd grab another Landjäger for the car ride to the Airport.

One problem, I was 10 minutes drive away and they closed in 7 minutes. I decided a phone call was in order. Robin picked up and greeted me with top notch customer service. The order will be put aside and waiting -The door will be closed but just come up and knock The next mission was to get the Zwiebelmettwurst home, it needed to survive a 4 hour journey, my idea a bag of frozen peas from the supermarket, Robin and Alanas idea "No way!" take a freezer pack from the back to make sure it gets there in the right fashion. I was happy too(as was my wife) as the flight was delayed and the trip home took six and half hours. I walked in the door and the ice pack was still frozen solid and the Zwiebelmettwurst icy cold, a pair of the Landjäger even made it home(thanks Alana 😉). These guys are the real deal, their food is on point and their customer service is great. If you're a local that hasn't been, go and support them. If you're visiting Tauranga stop in.

Cured meats have long been a favourite of mine, and Blackforest have been doing it incredibly well and always consistently for many years. Whether it's the meter biersticks, smoky or chilli biltong, the firecrackers - if you're lucky enough to live near a stockist, you might have seen packets of these little beauties catching your eye when you go to pick up your after work tipple.

We often have foreigners who come and visit us remark on the authenticity and taste when they're given a sample (this usually turns into the whole bag). For me it's a consistent, constant in a world where everyone is changing recipes; but Blackforest remains a friendly reminder that tradition often trumps adaptation when it comes to food.

A big shout out to Robin who helped me with an issue I had with a product recently - I had considered thanking by email, but feel that the overwhelming kindness and genuine passion for the product provided to me would be better suited in public, where those who might be curious about giving the product a go might be further convinced to give them a try. I just wanted to share my amazing experience at your shop! The meat is always exquisite, real, and tasty. Plus, it's gluten-free! The customer service is top-notch too. Always friendly and approachable with loads of personality. A pleasure to pop in to see you when we are in town.
